Red Hat announced<\/a><\/noindex> on the formation of a new open project Quay<\/a><\/noindex>, which will continue the development of the previously closed repository of container images of the same name, which underlies the services Red Hat Quay<\/a><\/noindex> and Quay.io<\/a><\/noindex>. The project came into the hands of Red Hat after the acquisition of CoreOS and was opened under the initiative to convert proprietary products of acquired companies into open-source software. The code is written in Python and is open<\/a><\/noindex> under the Apache 2.0 license.<\/p>\n

The project provides tools for building, storing, and distributing container images and applications, as well as a web interface for managing the registry. With Quay, you can deploy your own registry of container images or applications in a controlled infrastructure, which requires only access to a DBMS and disk space for storing images. <\/p>\n

The registry is compatible with version 1 and 2 protocol<\/a><\/noindex> (Docker Registry HTTP API), used for distributing container images for the Docker engine, as well as with the Docker manifest file specification. For container discovery, the specification is supported by App Container Image Discovery<\/a><\/noindex>. It is possible to connect to continuous delivery and integration systems (CD\/CI) with builds from repositories based on GitHub, Bitbucket, GitLab, and Git.<\/p>\n

Quay provides flexible access control mechanisms, tools for managing development teams, and allows for user authentication using LDAP, Keystone, OIDC, Google Auth, and GitHub. The storage can be deployed on local file systems, S3, GCS, Swift, and Ceph, and replicated to optimize data delivery considering the user's location. It includes a toolkit Clair<\/a><\/noindex>, providing automated scanning of container contents to detect unpatched vulnerabilities. <\/p>\n
