Racket is a language inspired by Scheme, as well as an ecosystem for programming in other languages. It began its transition to dual licensing under Apache 2.0 or MIT in 2017, and by version 7.5, almost all of its components are completing this process.<\/p>\n

The authors note two main reasons for this:<\/p>\n

  1. It's unclear how to interpret the LGPL provisions on dynamic linking to Racket, where macros \"copy\" code from libraries into the application code, and applications are often packaged with the Racket runtime and libraries.<\/li>\n
  2. Some organizations fundamentally refuse to use software licensed under any variation of the GPL.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Only a few small components remain under LGPL due to unknown authors or those who did not respond to the relicensing request. Two developers declined such requests, and their code and documentation have already been removed or rewritten.<\/p>\n
