Introduced<\/a><\/noindex> project release LibreELEC 9.2<\/a><\/noindex>, developing<\/a><\/noindex> a distribution fork for creating home theaters OpenELEC<\/a><\/noindex>. The user interface is built on the Kodi media center. To download are prepared<\/a><\/noindex> images for working with USB drives or SD cards (32- and 64-bit x86, Raspberry Pi 1\/2\/3, various devices based on Rockchip and Amlogic chips).<\/p>\n

With LibreELEC, you can turn any computer into a media center, and working with it is no more complicated than using a DVD player or set-top box. The core principle of the distribution is 'everything just works'; to create a fully functional environment, all you need to do is load LibreELEC from a flash drive. Users do not need to worry about keeping the system up to date\u2014the distribution uses an automatic boot and update installation system triggered when connected to the global network. There is also the possibility of extending the functionality of the distribution through an add-on system, which is installed from a separate repository maintained by the project's developers. <\/p>\n

The main changes in the new version relate to providing official support for boards Raspberry Pi 4<\/a><\/noindex>The Raspberry Pi 4 can handle 4K video, but by default, it displays video at a resolution of 1080p. To enable 4K output, the option 'hdmi_enable_4kp60=1' has been added to config.txt. The Raspberry Pi 4 also supports hardware-accelerated HEVC video decoding. <\/p>\n

The media center Kodi included has been updated to version 18.5. The Linux kernel in the builds for x86 architecture has been updated to version 5.1, but for Raspberry Pi, a 4.19 kernel is offered with additional patches taken from Raspbian. Support for drivers for web cameras has been added. A special interface has been proposed for updating the firmware with a bootloader installed in the SPI flash of Raspberry Pi 4.<\/p>\n

It's worth noting that LibreELEC was created as a result of a conflict between the maintainer of OpenELEC and a large group of developers. The distribution does not use the package base of other distributions and is based on its own developments<\/a><\/noindex>. In addition to the standard features of Kodi, the distribution provides a range of additional functions aimed at simplifying operations. For example, a special configuration add-on is being developed to configure network connection settings, manage LCD screen parameters, and enable or disable automatic update installations. The distribution supports such features as using a remote control (management possible via both infrared and Bluetooth), file sharing (built-in Samba server), a built-in BitTorrent client Transmission, and automatic searching and connecting local and external drives.<\/p>\n
