Introduced<\/a><\/noindex> release of the toolkit GNU Mes 0.21<\/a><\/noindex>, providing the bootstrapping process for GCC. The toolkit addresses the task of a verified initial build of the compiler in distributions, breaking the cycle of circular rebuilding (an already built compiler's executables are required for building the compiler). <\/p>\n

In GNU Mes it is recommended to<\/a><\/noindex> a self-hosting interpreter for the Scheme language, written in C, and a simple compiler for C (MesCC), written in Scheme. Both components are mutually buildable. The Scheme interpreter allows building the C compiler MesCC, which in turn enables building a stripped version of the compiler TinyCC<\/a><\/noindex> (tcc), whose capabilities are already sufficient for building GCC. <\/p>\n

The new release includes the ability for partial<\/a><\/noindex> (Reduced Binary Seed) bootstrapping of the Guix distribution using the shell Gash<\/a><\/noindex> (Guile as Shell) instead of bash and Gash Core Utils instead of coreutils, grep, sed, gzip, make, awk, and tar, using only components in the Scheme language. The new version also prepares a package with Mes for Debian GNU\/Linux.<\/p>\n

Upcoming releases are expected to include support for bootstrapping for NixOS, the possibility of using dietlibc and uClibc for bootstrapping GNU (bash, binutils, gcc, tar), support for ARM architecture, the Debian distribution, and the GNU Hurd kernel, as well as the ability to compile Mes.c using M2-Planet<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n
