Project Linux-Hardware.org<\/a><\/noindex> announced statistics<\/a><\/noindex> of hardware used in Linux over the past 5 years. The study involved users who uploaded hardware samples during this period using the hw-probe program. Research Results<\/a><\/noindex> correlate with results from a year ago Ubuntu User Statistics<\/a><\/noindex> from Canonical. <\/p>\n

Despite the fact that for most parameters, the statistics from Canonical and Linux-Hardware.org differ within 10 percent, there are notable discrepancies for certain metrics. For instance, according to Linux-Hardware.org, the number of 32-bit Ubuntu installations is 8% (compared to 2% by Canonical), usage of a single GPU is reported at 80% (versus 94% by Canonical), and the PPI of monitors used is below 120 in 72% of cases (against 33% by Canonical). <\/p>\n

A significant distinction between Linux-Hardware.org and Canonical's report is the ability to view detailed specifications of each computer involved in the data collection, as well as a greater number of monitored hardware\/OS parameters and support for all Linux distributions without exception. Each statistics page features both circular and linear charts over time \u2014 you can observe how user preferences change over time. However, the linear charts depend on the growth of the project's popularity, so attention should be paid more to the ratio of values rather than their absolute growth. The report also is available<\/a><\/noindex> on GitHub, just like all anonymized user samples.
