Introduced<\/a><\/noindex> release of the display server Mir 1.6<\/a><\/noindex>, developed by Canonical, continues to thrive despite the abandonment of the Unity shell and the Ubuntu edition for smartphones. Mir remains in demand in Canonical's projects and is now positioned as a solution for embedded devices and the Internet of Things (IoT). Mir can be used as a compositor for Wayland, allowing any applications that use Wayland (for example, those built with GTK3\/4, Qt5, or SDL2) to run in environments based on Mir. Installation packages are prepared for Ubuntu 16.04\/18.04\/18.10\/19.04 (PPA<\/a><\/noindex>) and Fedora 29\/30\/31<\/a><\/noindex>. The project's code is distributed<\/a><\/noindex> is licensed under GPLv2.<\/p>\n

The latest release has optimized the performance of code related to Wayland and introduced a new graphics platform «wayland», allowing Mir to run as a client under another Wayland composite server (one such server can be the provided miral-system-compositor in Mir). Switching between different sessions is done via Ctrl-Alt-PgUp\/Ctrl-Alt-PgDn. This feature was the final link needed to transition the UBports\/Ubuntu Touch stack from mirclient to Wayland and to run Unity8 as a client of unity-system-compositor.<\/p>\n

Additionally, an initial implementation of the rpi-dispmanx graphics platform is available for Mir, intended for use on Raspberry Pi. This includes new demonstration applications.
\nmir_demo_client_wayland_egl_spinner and miral-system-compositor. Build issues in Arch Linux have been resolved.<\/p>\n
