The organization Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), one of the co-founders of the nonprofit certificate authority Let’s Encrypt, introduced<\/a><\/noindex> release of the toolkit Certbot 1.0<\/a><\/noindex>, designed to simplify the acquisition of TLS\/SSL certificates and automate HTTPS configuration on web servers. Certbot can also serve as client software for requesting certificates from various certificate authorities using the ACME protocol. The project code is written in Python and is distributed<\/a><\/noindex> under the Apache 2.0 license.<\/p>\n

Certbot not only automates the acquisition and renewal of certificates but also generates ready-to-use configurations for enabling HTTPS on Apache httpd, nginx, and haproxy in various Linux distributions and BSD systems, as well as redirecting requests from HTTP to HTTPS. The private key for the certificate is generated on the user's side. There is also the option to revoke obtained certificates in case of system compromise.<\/p>\n
