Introduced<\/a><\/noindex> release Zulip 2.1<\/a><\/noindex>, a server platform for deploying corporate messengers suitable for facilitating communication among employees and development teams. The project was initially developed by Zulip and was made open-source after being acquired by Dropbox under the Apache 2.0 license. The server-side code is written<\/a><\/noindex> is written in Python using the Django framework. The client software available<\/a><\/noindex> is available for Linux, Windows, macOS, Android<\/a><\/noindex> and iOS<\/a><\/noindex>, and also includes a built-in web interface.<\/p>\n

The system supports both direct messaging between two users as well as group discussions. Zulip can be compared to a service Slack<\/a><\/noindex> and considered an internal corporate equivalent of Twitter, used for communication and discussions of work-related matters within large employee groups. It provides tools for tracking status and participation in multiple discussions simultaneously, using a threaded message display model, which is an optimal compromise between room-based messaging in Slack and the single public space of Twitter. The simultaneous threaded display of all discussions allows a comprehensive overview of all groups in one place while maintaining logical separation between them.<\/p>\n

Among the features of Zulip, it also supports sending messages to users in offline mode (messages will be delivered once they are online), maintains a complete history of discussions on the server, and provides search tools for the archive, the ability to send files via drag-and-drop, automatic syntax highlighting for code blocks shared in messages, built-in markup language for quick list creation and text formatting, tools for group sending of notifications, the ability to create private groups, integration with Trac, Nagios, Github, Jenkins, Git, Subversion, JIRA, Puppet, RSS, Twitter, and other services, and tools for ad-hoc labeling of messages.<\/p>\n
