The founder of Nginx, Igor Sysoev, can be considered one of the most talented and valuable individuals in Russia, and if something like this has happened to him, it could happen to any of us. <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/habr.com\/ru\/company\/itsumma\/blog\/479942\/\">This article<\/a><\/noindex> has sparked a huge discussion in the comments. It will focus on this discussion, the reactions, what we can do to prevent similar situations, and which options were discussed along with the most effective responses. So, here\u2019s what was discussed:<br \/>\n<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" name=\"habracut\"><\/a><\/noindex><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All the scoundrels<\/li>\n<li>Leave the country<\/li>\n<li>Protect Nginx<\/li>\n<li>Punish the guilty<\/li>\n<li>Identify the guilty and punish them<\/li>\n<li>Request the authorities to resolve the situation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nLet\u2019s go through each of the options.<\/p>\n<h2>All the scoundrels<\/h2>\n<p>\nA fairly common reaction, a typical response from a serf who feels powerless. You can complain to your friends, and they will commiserate with you, providing temporary relief, but the situation won\u2019t change. Given our country\u2019s history, this is a widespread reaction; serfdom was abolished, but the serfs remained. They console themselves by believing that critics are needed, but in reality, through criticism, they justify their own laziness. Those who criticize don\u2019t have to do anything, and this is another reason why such a position is so popular.<\/p>\n<h2>Leave the country<\/h2>\n<p>\nIf it's bad here, why not move somewhere else? After all, that's what our ancestors did when they were pushed eastward by Germanic tribes in Europe during the fifth century\u2014they simply left. This position may improve the situation for an individual person, but it won't help society as a whole. Moreover, from my experience (having lived for about two years in three different countries, Cyprus, Cambodia, and the USA), I can say that there are often no fewer injustices abroad, plus the language barrier, unfamiliarity with laws and culture, and lack of any connections or means of defending oneself. You get what you fled from; scoundrels are everywhere. Let's remember Polonsky, who was stripped in Cambodia, or Tinkov, who was pushed out of the American lumber market. Let's recall the default of Laiki Bank in Cyprus when people were told that their deposits had simply vanished. Another point is the comfort of life. I enjoy communicating with my Russian friends from school and university. I really appreciate the high educational level of people in Russia; it's not that common around the world. <\/p>\n<p>Speaking from my own experiences in these countries: the food, social services, and infrastructure in the USA are terrible. You can earn a lot and build a fabulous house for yourself, but outside, there are marginalized people with firearms, wheelchair-bound disabled individuals who cannot afford treatment (once, I had a tooth extracted here for $1200), and they beg for money (there are significantly more of them than in Russia). You understand that you could always find yourself in their position. Cyprus has a much better social system and order, but it\u2019s a small island, quite dull after one season. Cambodia combines the worst aspects of the USA and Cyprus, with bad food, social services, and public order\u2014it's very boring; after one season, you'll want to go somewhere else. I'm sure there are truly good countries out there, but they need to be sought after, and something always comes to light. I like living in Russia; I genuinely feel comfortable here, if not for the abuses of certain individuals, which is what we want to fix. Let's move on to other reactions.<\/p>\n<h2>Protect Nginx<\/h2>\n<p>\nThe position of a responsible adult. Right now they have come for them \u2014 we protected them, tomorrow they will come for us \u2014 we will be protected. We can create something like a collective defense society; when abuse occurs, everyone joins in to defend their own. Nginx is a very well-known project, and many have stepped up, but no one will take on the average developer unless a community is formed and practice is gained. We need coordinators, we need groups\/chats in popular social networks\/messengers. We need people who will promptly report events (and gain karma and honor for it). We need lawyers who can quickly respond in such cases, know what to do (and gain potential clients; no one says they have to work for free). Businesses need to conduct briefings on what to do in such situations, similar to fire drills, as ordering a masked operation in Russia is incredibly easy, and according to unverified data, such an action could be covered by even a month's salary of a single developer. Corruption, both grassroots and top-down, and the use of administrative power \u2014 are real risks, and we as a society must develop protective measures for what can be done in case of such an attack and how to minimize losses. All developed countries have gone through this stage, and we hope to learn from their experience so that we don't spend 50 years on it, but manage to accomplish it in 10. It would be great if a discussion on defense methods could start in the comments, what can be done and how to act more effectively in such situations.<\/p>\n<h2>Punish the guilty<\/h2>\n<p>\nA very unpopular reaction in our humane society, and possibly the main reason for the prevalence of various kinds of wrongdoers. In the past, there was a revolution in military affairs when armies stopped merely driving the enemy off their land and began to decisively defeat them. If you simply drive a wrongdoer away, they will return. But if you punish them, you will not only prevent such behavior from this particular individual, but also set a precedent that will reduce overall criminal activity, as wrongdoers will fear just punishment. This is the most difficult option, but in the long term, it turns out to be much simpler than living a life of constant defense and fear. What can we do? Condemnation on the internet, reducing the HR brand, leaking media accounts, complaints to all instances, court, higher court, European court, public boycott? Some of these measures are more effective than others; we need to develop a list of effective methods that society can actually implement.<\/p>\n<h2>Identify the guilty and punish them<\/h2>\n<p>\nThere have been many accusations in the comments against Mamut, but I am puzzled by the fact that the amount of the claim is too small, while Mamut's wealth is significant enough to make even a single phone call about it. There are indeed people who believe that Putin is to blame for all the country's woes. Or Stalin, Yeltsin, Gorbachev - different people at different times. I believe that in every situation, specific individuals are responsible, and if we do not find and blame them, but instead target their superiors or subordinates, the situation will not resolve, and wrongdoers will continue to act unjustly. It is important not just to punish, but to punish the right people; otherwise, there's no point in punishment.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding this situation, there are evident violations on the part of the investigation at a minimum. In the ruling from <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/habr.com\/ru\/company\/itsumma\/blog\/479942\/\">article<\/a><\/noindex> It refers to an unidentified group of individuals, but it is not difficult to establish the identity of the current CEO of Nginx and the identities of former Rambler employees. Such wording is deliberately inserted to justify the search. Did the investigator know that she was committing violations? I'm sure she did. Perhaps she received instructions from the management, but she is not obliged to carry out criminal orders from her superiors. I tried to find information online about the investigator E.A. Spirenkova \u2014 the information is absent. Maybe someone can contact the press service of the Main Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and obtain their official position. What can be done here is to file a request for an internal investigation, I'm not sure if it should be directed to the security service or elsewhere; let the lawyers correct me in the comments. Lynwood Investments is involved in this situation; we need to find out whether this organization is the initiator of the process or just a legal representative of Rambler. In Russia, we have an adversarial legal system, and it would be incorrect to attack the lawyers, even if they are defending the bad guys, as long as they do it correctly. Did they make the decision to conduct the show of force, or was it the client's initiative? And who is the client? We need to develop methods for conducting public investigations and protecting their participants, see point 3. For now, we can gather information from open court data, press releases, and simply searching online. It would be great to see in the comments alternative ways to obtain detailed information about what is happening. I recall a case about a gang that robbed currency exchanges; they committed over 20 incidents while they operated \u2014 people thought the exchange business was very dangerous, and several attacks occurred each month. It turned out that it was the same group of villains, and when they were caught, the crimes ceased.<\/p>\n<h2>UPD: Ask the authorities to resolve the situation<\/h2>\n<p>\nThe option that came up literally today, published by Oleg Bunin <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/habr.com\/ru\/company\/oleg-bunin\/blog\/480136\/\">a petition<\/a><\/noindex>, under which one can sign to draw the authorities' attention to the problem.
