Or how to spit in the face of the industry\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/bede5847dc2f46c9dc15cfb4effcd736.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/a><\/noindex><br \/>\n<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" name=\"habracut\"><\/a><\/noindex><\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s happening?<\/h2>\n<p>\nAnd we don\u2019t need to get involved in what\u2019s happening. In short, one entrepreneur is trying to seize the assets of Aihor hosting from another, with one, judging by statements and photos\/videos from the scene, having completely cut the power to the data center and bringing down the router, while the other has pressed the billing system, and this two-headed Gamaun is tearing apart the hosting on which thousands of websites hang, from major communities and sites to small online stores, 1C databases, theses, diplomas, pet projects, etc. There are dedicated servers with serious databases, architectures, and monitoring systems from various companies. Thus, all these guys, whose projects are hanging on Aihor's dead servers, couldn\u2019t care less whose USB stick is plugged into whose port \u2014 what matters to them is that due to a conflict involving four adult men showing signs of infantilism and hysteria, this is what\u2019s occurring.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>People are losing traffic, which will drop significantly after restoration due to throttling, and we will all end up with about 30-40% of our usual volume.\n<\/li>\n<li>People risk facing penalties from search engines, including bans and dropping out of search results (search engines, as you understand, cannot pause their algorithms due to Aihor's screw-up, no matter how much they might wish to show sympathy).\n<\/li>\n<li>Online stores and corporate websites are losing holiday sales \u2014 those very sales that sometimes account for nearly 20% of the entire year. The New Year is irrevocably spoiled.\n<\/li>\n<li>While everyone will be chopping salads and skiing, those affected will continue to painstakingly restore what has been lost.\u00a0\n<\/li>\n<li>Massive losses and missed profits are coming from all sides, which, by the way, is extremely ineffective in lawsuits according to Russian law enforcement practices.\u00a0\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nIn other words, at any moment we could be relying on the arguments of 2-5 people, along with our business, staff, and developments. <\/p>\n<h2>Why is it foolish to compare with NGINX?<\/h2>\n<p>\nHonestly, I even feel awkward writing this paragraph because I'm dragging myself into this ridiculous comparison. The situation with nginx is a serious dispute among big capital, backed by enormous companies. There\u2019s no fool who will \u2018turn off the switch\u2019; it\u2019s a different technology and a different level. Yes, all of us (including my side projects) staged a blackout talking about a \u2018world without nginx,\u2019 but we still knew that a tremendous IT community (how loud was Habr, Habr, you are space!) and sensible capitalists wouldn\u2019t let this story go awry. Although initially, the situation looked like a blast from the 90s, it was met very maturely.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The situation with Aihor looks dire: the altercation of several men is robbing businesses, particularly the most vulnerable and dependent part of it\u2014small and some medium enterprises. At the worst possible moment for cash flow! This means an immediate reaction: here comes the action, and that\u2019s it, subscribers are left bewildered, scrambling for backups (if they had any), looking for hosting, and losing money, losing the lifeblood needed for the coming year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In two threads amidst the curses of these four men, I read the same comment: Pavel Durov didn\u2019t steal data, servers, or databases, he didn\u2019t block vents; he left and created another great project. I have an answer to this comment. Durov, despite being a controversial figure, is a techie, a developer, someone who understands the value of clients and those who trusted him. By his actions, he didn\u2019t let down his users or those guys who had a micro-business thriving on VKontakte (by the way, the same happened with Telegram). The guys from Aihor are not techies; they are businessmen with rotting principles, only thinking about money. They didn\u2019t even have the intellect to realize that their conflict wiped out the entire subscriber base, and the community hates them all \u2014 it\u2019s unlikely we would venture into a project where we encounter the names of these restructuring participants (I won\u2019t mention them, I don\u2019t want to). There can\u2019t be a right side here: both sides failed to negotiate, both value neither subscribers nor the work of IT specialists, the most hosting-dependent work.<\/p>\n<h2>Why are we so naive?<\/h2>\n<p>\nI\u2019m probably in all the chats dedicated to this situation: official, unofficial, private, etc. And in each chat, there are 300-600 people sharing live what they have lost and are losing. It\u2019s terrifying, terrifying in its scale and\u2026 hopelessness. This is what I observed.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>People believed in Aihor; many cite its benefits and believe that everything will return and be fine. And they will stick with it!\n<\/li>\n<li>IT specialists didn\u2019t back up their data or stored it on the same server \u2014 I\u2019m genuinely frustrated and hope this will be a great lesson for everyone. Friends, keep backups on a different server or at home. This is your money and nerves.\n<\/li>\n<li>People are quite skeptical and proudly dismiss discount offers, and that\u2019s great.\n<\/li>\n<li>Competitors flocked to the chats like hawks on a battlefield.\n<\/li>\n<li>There\u2019s a lot of fakes, false information, and trolling in the chats (not to be confused with humor). This is inappropriate in a situation where people are facing, I won\u2019t hesitate to say, disaster.\n<\/li>\n<li>Aihor subscribers don\u2019t think about what will happen next: will their database be sold and leaked, will they be moved to a new hosting that is actually the brainchild of the old owners, will they be left hanging with backups and servers, etc. There are more emotions than advice and analysis. This is a bad sign.\n<\/li>\n<li>No one reacted to the previous signals and signs that Aihor was coming to an end (this was predictable, and there had already been situations and failures).\n<\/li>\n<li>There are almost no thoughts on resolving this situation through legal avenues: class actions, courts, the Roskomnadzor, fines, etc. And it's not because IT specialists are smart enough to save everything, and passive enough not to waste time. It's simply a reflection of the level of legal culture in the country, unfortunately. \n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nFriends, I urge everyone to be cautious with those who have already proven to be unscrupulous dealers. Fortunately, there are many hosting providers in Russia. If hosting in Russia is not critical, there are even more options.
