Canonical introduced<\/a><\/noindex> the first stable release of the toolkit multipass 1.0<\/a><\/noindex>, designed to simplify the installation of various versions of Ubuntu on virtual machines running on Linux, Windows, and macOS virtualization systems. Multipass allows developers to launch the desired version of Ubuntu in a virtual machine with a single command, without additional setup, for experimentation or testing their applications. In Linux, KVM is used to run the virtual machine, Hyper-V is used in Windows, and HyperKit on macOS is used. It is also possible to utilize VirtualBox for running virtual machines. The project code is written in C++ and is distributed<\/a><\/noindex> is licensed under GPLv3. For quick installation of multipass in Ubuntu, a snap package<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n

Multipass automatically retrieves the necessary operating system image and keeps it up to date. cloud-init can be used for configuration. There is an option to mount external disk partitions into the virtual environment (the multipass mount command), as well as tools for transferring individual files between the host system and the virtual machine (multipass transfer). The user's home directory is automatically mounted in the virtual machine as ~\/Home. Full integration with the main desktop is supported (application icons, system menus, and notifications are added).<\/p>\n
