In accordance with the requirements of the enacted law CCPA<\/a><\/noindex> (California Consumer Privacy Act) Mozilla will suggest<\/a><\/noindex> in the upcoming Firefox 72 release, scheduled for January 7, will provide the ability to initiate the deletion of data collected through telemetry from Mozilla's servers and linked<\/a><\/noindex> to a specific instance of the browser. <\/p>\n

The CCPA grants the right to know what personal data is collected and to whom this data is shared, requires access to this data, as well as the ability to amend, delete, and prohibit the sale of already collected personal data. The CCPA's data protection only applies to California residents, but Mozilla has decided to provide telemetry data deletion tools to all users, regardless of their location. <\/p>\n

Data removal occurs if telemetry collection is disabled in the section «about:preferences#privacy» («Firefox Data Collection and Use»). When the option «Allow Firefox to send technical and interaction data to Mozilla» is unchecked, which controls the sending of telemetry, Mozilla commits<\/a><\/noindex> to delete within 30 days remove<\/a><\/noindex> will delete all data collected prior to the cessation of telemetry transmission. The data that is stored on Mozilla's servers during telemetry collection includes information on Firefox's performance, security, and general metrics, such as the number of open tabs and session duration (details about visited websites and search queries are not transmitted).
