Available<\/a><\/noindex> The first beta version of the Trident OS, ported from FreeBSD and TrueOS to the Void Linux package base. The size of the boot image ISO image<\/a><\/noindex> is 515MB. The build uses ZFS on the root partition, with the ability to roll back the boot environment using ZFS snapshots. It comes with a simplified installer, allows operation on systems with EFI and BIOS, supports swap partition encryption, and offers packages for standard glibc and musl libraries. A separate ZFS dataset is created for each user\u2019s home directory (snapshots of the home directory can be manipulated without root privileges), ensuring data encryption in user directories.<\/p>\n

Several installation levels are offered: Void (a basic package set of Void plus packages for ZFS support), Server (console mode operation for servers), Lite Desktop (minimal desktop based on Lumina), Full Desktop (full Lumina desktop with additional office, communication, and multimedia applications). As for the limitations of the beta release \u2014 there is no ready GUI for desktop configuration, Trident-specific utilities haven't been ported, and there's no manual partitioning mode in the installer.<\/p>\n

Recall that in October, the Trident project announced<\/a><\/noindex> migrated from FreeBSD and TrueOS to Linux. The reason for the migration was the inability to resolve certain issues affecting the distribution's users, such as hardware compatibility, support for modern communication standards, and package availability. It is expected that after transitioning to Void Linux, Trident will be able to expand support for graphics cards and provide users with more modern graphic drivers, improve audio card support, enhance audio streaming capabilities, add support for audio transmission over HDMI, improve wireless network adapter support and Bluetooth interface devices, offer fresher software versions, accelerate boot processes, and implement support for hybrid installations on UEFI systems. <\/p>\n
