Playtonic Games announced on their microblog<\/a><\/noindex> the upcoming release of the demo for the platformer Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, which was released in October last year.<\/p>\n

The trial edition will first appear on Steam \u2014 this will happen on January 23. A week later, on January 30, it will be available on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The release dates for the demo on Xbox One, Epic Games Store, and GOG are not specified by the developers.<\/p>\n

According to the studio representatives, the demo version will not be time-limited and will allow players to transfer their progress to the full game if they decide to purchase it.<\/p>\n

In the trial version Playtonic Games promises<\/a><\/noindex> the \"variety of vibrant and thrilling 2D levels\", their alternative variations, the tonics system, and the Impossible Lair itself.<\/p>\n

In response to a question from one interested Twitter user about why the studio did not release the demo before the launch<\/a><\/noindex>, a team representative cited their small size (around 30 employees) and difficulties with certification.<\/p>\n

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair was released on October 8, 2019, on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. During the New Year's sale in the Epic Games Store, the game was given away for free<\/a><\/noindex> to all users of the service.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the developers dismissed rumors<\/a><\/noindex> about the revival of Banjo-Kazooie. Playtonic Games was founded by former Rare employees, who created Banjo-Kazooie in 1998, but the rights to the franchise have since passed to Microsoft.<\/p>\n
