Additionally, Georgia is known for its hospitality, cuisine, and beautiful natural landscapes. How can it be beneficial for freelancers and companies working in the IT technology sector?<\/p>\n<h2>Preferential Taxes for IT Companies<\/h2>\n<p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Opportunities for IT specialists in Georgia\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/a1b601e364840978978d18731cdfe01a.png\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><br \/>\n<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" name=\"habracut\"><\/a><\/noindex><br \/>\nCurrently, Georgia is not a leading state in the field of computer technology; rather the opposite is true. An attempt to change this situation was made in 2011 with the enactment of the Georgian Law 'On Information Technology Zones.' Under this regulation, all companies in the information technology sector gained the opportunity to reduce their tax burden, provided they sell their products abroad. In this case, they were exempt from paying:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>corporate profit tax \u2013 15%;<\/li>\n<li>VAT \u2013 18%;<\/li>\n<li>export duties.<\/li>\n<li>The only tax that IT companies with virtual status pay is a 5% dividend tax to owners. Additionally, if they have employees, the following is withheld:<\/li>\n<li>20% \u2014 income tax;<\/li>\n<li>4% \u2014 contribution to the Pension Fund (only from residents of Georgia).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nHowever, the prospects for reducing taxation did not attract 'crowds' of computer companies to the country. Nonetheless, the opportunity to decrease the fiscal burden became an interesting option for IT professionals from neighboring countries (e.g., Ukraine, Russia, Armenia) who wish to temporarily or permanently relocate. This was facilitated by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>geographical proximity;<\/li>\n<li>lack of communication issues, as many Georgians understand and speak Russian;<\/li>\n<li>no visa requirement \u2013 one can live, work, and study in Georgia for a year, after which they can cross the border and return to live here for another year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>How to Register a Computer Company in Georgia<\/h2>\n<p>\nRegistering an IT firm, similar to an LLC in Georgia, can be accomplished in one day at the Justice House. The cost of expedited registration is 200 lari (on the day of application); if the registration certificate is picked up the next day, the fee is 100 lari. <\/p>\n<p>The only difficulties a foreigner may encounter are filling out documents in the Georgian language and providing proof of a legal address. However, these issues can be easily overcome with the help of specialized companies. Next, with the company registration extract, one should visit the tax office, where they will receive a username and password for accessing their personal account. On the website, a short application must be filled out (in the Georgian language). Then, within 2-14 days, a link to download the 'Virtual Zone Person' certificate will be sent to the email. It is valid for one year, after which a new application must be submitted. <\/p>\n<p>As can be seen, registering an IT company in Georgia is quite simple, and the procedure itself does not take much time. However, the main problem in the country is the lack of qualified specialists. One option is to hire developers from abroad. In Georgia, foreign specialists do not need work permits, simplifying the hiring process. However, it is not always practical to bring employees to another country, as they need to be ensured a sufficient income level for normal living here. <\/p>\n<p>Of course, there are computer companies that have opened their branches here, such as Oberig IT (Ukraine). <\/p>\n<p>What benefits can IT companies that have opened offices in Georgia gain, besides low taxation:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>reduction in labor costs \u2013 when hiring Georgian specialists;<\/li>\n<li>access to foreign markets \u2013 the Georgian government has signed free trade agreements with EU countries, EFTA, CIS, China, Hong Kong, and Turkey;<\/li>\n<li>existing agreements to avoid double taxation with 55 countries around the world (as of early 2019);<\/li>\n<li>the ability to circumvent sanctions \u2013 relevant for companies from Russia, which foreign clients are reluctant to work with to avoid falling under EU and US sanctions. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nIn addition to lower taxes, IT professionals from other countries may be very interested in the service conditions offered by Georgian banks. Here, the rates for current account services and online banking are very low, making opening personal accounts for individuals and corporate accounts for IT companies quite rational. <\/p>\n<p>It makes sense to use payment cards and personal accounts from Georgian banks to receive payments for completed orders from freelancers living in Georgia. Moving here allows one to continue working remotely, earning high salaries while spending less on food, leisure, entertainment, and even living by the sea in Batumi. <br \/>\nBut the most interesting aspect of services in Georgian banks is that they do not automatically share information with tax authorities of other countries (Georgia is not a participant in the CRS). This means that any incoming funds to the account will not be disclosed in the country where the client is a tax resident. As a result, it is possible to save on taxes. <\/p>\n<h2>Banking Services for IT Professionals<\/h2>\n<p>\nGeorgia has two major banks that hold over 70% of the financial market \u2013 Bank of Georgia and TBC Bank. Both financial institutions are universal, have an extensive branch network, and can be of interest to freelancers, whether they are planning to move to Georgia or living in other countries. <\/p>\n<p>Self-employed IT professionals are practically interested in payment cards from Georgian banks. They need to tackle essential tasks such as how to deposit payments into their accounts and withdraw money, with the main concern being to minimize bank service fees. <\/p>\n<p>Georgian banks use the international IBAN standard for bank accounts, provide access to client accounts through online banking, and issue payment cards for Visa and MasterCard payment systems, while Bank of Georgia also offers American Express. <\/p>\n<p>To open a personal account, a non-resident only needs to have a passport and fill out a client questionnaire.<\/p>\n<h2>Standard service fees at TBC Bank<\/h2>\n<p>\nWhat expenses will a freelancer incur when using TBC Bank's services:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>opening a current account \u2013 10 lari and monthly service fee \u2013 0.9 lari;<\/li>\n<li>Annual fee for issuing a payment card: Classic\/Standard \u2014 30 GEL, Gold \u2014 90 GEL, plus a monthly maintenance fee: Visa Classic \/ MC Standard \u2013 2.5 GEL, Visa\/MC Gold \u2013 7.50 GEL;<\/li>\n<li>Cash withdrawal at TBC Bank branches: 0.6%, min. 0.2 GEL; at the bank's ATMs and its partners \u2013 0.2%, min. 0.2 GEL;<\/li>\n<li>Cash withdrawal at other ATMs: 2%, min. 3 USD\/EUR or 6 GEL;<\/li>\n<li>Transfers to other banks: in lari \u2013 0.07% min. 0.9 GEL; in USD \u2013 0.2% min. 15 USD max. 150 USD; in other currencies \u2013 0.2% min. 15 EUR max. 150 EUR;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nYou can save money by ordering a package service right away. Within the packages, clients don't pay for opening an account, its monthly maintenance, card issuance, and its maintenance. <\/p>\n<p>For example, by paying the annual fee for the 'Status' package \u2013 170 lari (about 57.5 USD), a client can save 30.8 lari: 10 lari (account opening) + 10.8 lari (annual account maintenance) + 90 lari (Gold card issuance) + 90 lari (annual maintenance fee for Gold card). In the 'Status' package, transfers to other banks are cheaper: in lari \u2013 0.5 lari, in USD\/currency \u2013 9.9 USD\/currency.<\/p>\n<p>Figuratively speaking, if a freelancer receives payments on the TBC Bank gold card, he will incur expenses: 170 lari per year for purchasing the package and 2% min. 3 USD for each cash withdrawal at an ATM in his home country. However, if he lives in Georgia, the cash withdrawal cost would be 0.2% minimum 0.2 lari.<\/p>\n<h2>Solo premium package from Bank of Georgia<\/h2>\n<p>\nBank of Georgia offers IT specialists the opportunity to take advantage of the premium SOLO Club service package. Its cost is only 200 USD a year, but for this money, the client receives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an American Express Platinum Card;<\/li>\n<li>free cash withdrawals at all ATMs worldwide;<\/li>\n<li>increased daily cash withdrawal limit \u2013 up to 20,000 lari;<\/li>\n<li>a Priority Pass card for 5 free entries to airport lounges worldwide;<\/li>\n<li>insurance while traveling;<\/li>\n<li>24\/7 concierge services;<\/li>\n<li>participation in a loyalty program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nFew banks in the CIS and even more so in the EU can boast such affordable premium packages. For comparison, the monthly service of the premium package at Sberbank First costs 10,000 rubles if the balances in all bank accounts are below 15 million rubles. The service cost for the VTB Privilege package is 5,000 rubles per month or free, provided that card deposits amount to at least 200,000 rubles or account balances are no less than 2,000,000 rubles. <\/p>\n<p>Opening a personal account for non-residents in Georgian banks is not difficult and can be done remotely, without visiting the country. Clients gain stable and continuous access to their accounts by using online banking and payment cards. It should be noted that Georgia is not a participant in automatic financial data exchange.
