Developers of the Thunderbird email client announced<\/a><\/noindex> about the transfer of the project development to a separate company MZLA Technologies Corporation<\/a><\/noindex>, which is a subsidiary of the Mozilla Foundation. Until now, Thunderbird has been<\/a><\/noindex> under the auspices of the Mozilla Foundation, which managed financial and legal issues; however, the infrastructure and development of Thunderbird have been separated from Mozilla, and the project has been developing independently. The transfer to a separate division is due to the desire to more clearly separate the development processes and the handling of incoming donations. <\/p>\n

It is noted that the increase in donations from Thunderbird users in recent years now allows the project to develop successfully on its own. Moving to a separate company will increase the flexibility of processes, for example, allowing for independent hiring, acting more swiftly, and implementing ideas that would not have been possible under the Mozilla Foundation. In particular, the formation of products and services related to Thunderbird is mentioned, as well as generating revenue through partnerships and non-charitable donations. Structural changes will not affect work processes, the mission, the developer team composition, the release schedule, or the open nature of the project.<\/p>\n
