For my entire conscious life, I have been an energy professional (no, I'm not talking about a drink with questionable properties right now). <\/p>\n

I never really paid much attention to the world of information technology, and I probably wouldn't even be able to multiply matrices on a piece of paper. Besides, I never needed to, but to give you a small insight into the specifics of my work, I can share a remarkable story. One time, I asked my colleagues to work in Excel \u2013 a spreadsheet, and after half the workday went by, I approached them only to find them summing data on a calculator, yes, on a regular old black calculator with buttons. So, what kind of neural networks can we talk about after this? Therefore, I never had any special prerequisites for diving into the IT world. But, as they say, \"it's better where we aren't,\" my friends buzzed in my ears about augmented reality, neural networks, and programming languages (mostly about Python).<\/p>\n

In theory, it sounded quite simple, so I thought, why not learn this magical art to apply it in my field.<\/p>\n

In this article, I will skip my attempts to grasp the basics of Python and share my impressions of the free TensorFlow course from Udacity.<\/p>\n

Introduction<\/h2>\n

\nTo start, it's worth noting that after 11 years in the energy sector, when you know and can do everything, and even a little more (within your job responsibilities), learning radically new things \u2013 on one hand, sparks a tremendous enthusiasm, but on the other \u2013 it can turn into a physical pain in the \"gears in your head.\"<\/p>\n

I still don't fully grasp all the basic concepts of programming and machine learning, so you shouldn't judge me too harshly. I hope my article will be interesting and useful for those like me \u2014 far removed from software development.<\/p>\n

Before moving on to the course review, I should mention that studying it requires at least a minimal knowledge of Python. You can read a couple of beginner books (I've started taking a course on Stepic, but haven't completed it yet). <\/p>\n

In the TensorFlow course itself, there won't be complex constructs, but understanding why libraries are imported, how functions are defined, and why something is substituted in them will be necessary.<\/p>\n

Why TensorFlow and Udacity? <\/h2>\n

\nThe primary goal of my training was the desire to recognize photographs of electrical installation elements using neural networks. <\/p>\n

I chose TensorFlow because I heard about it from my friends. From what I understood, this course is quite popular.<\/p>\n

I tried to start studying from the official tutorial <\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n

and immediately faced two problems.<\/p>\n
