After analyzing the release by the OpenBSD project the fix<\/a><\/noindex> vulnerabilities in the VMM hypervisor, discovered<\/a><\/noindex> last week, a researcher discovered a problem
\nconcluded<\/a><\/noindex>, that the patch provided to users does not resolve the issues. The researcher indicated that the problem does not arise from the adjacent distribution of guest system physical addresses (GPA) or host system physical addresses (HPA). When traversing the page table structures, the guest system can still overwrite the content of the host environment's kernel memory areas.<\/p>\n

The vulnerability was identified by Maxime Villard (Maxime Villard<\/a><\/noindex>), the author of the kernel Address Space Layout Randomization (KASLR<\/a><\/noindex>, Kernel Address Space Layout Randomization) mechanisms used in NetBSD and the hypervisor NVMM<\/a><\/noindex>. <\/p>\n
