Developer of antivirus solutions «Doctor Web» informs<\/a><\/noindex> about the discovery of a dangerous backdoor being distributed by attackers disguised as an update for the popular Google Chrome browser. It is reported that over 2,000 people have already fallen victim to cybercriminals, and the number continues to rise.<\/p>\n

\"\u00abDoctor<\/p>\n

According to the viral laboratory «Doctor Web», to maximize audience reach, cybercriminals have exploited resources based on the CMS WordPress \u2014 from news blogs to corporate portals, which hackers managed to gain administrative access to. A JavaScript script has been embedded in the code of the compromised sites, redirecting users to a phishing site masquerading as the official resource of Google (see screenshot above).<\/p>\n

Using a backdoor, cybercriminals gain the ability to deliver «useful» payloads in the form of malicious applications to infected devices. Among them are: the X-Key Keylogger, the Predator The Thief style grabber, and a Trojan for remote management via the RDP protocol.<\/p>\n

To avoid unpleasant incidents, specialists from «Doctor Web» recommend being extremely cautious while working online and advise not to overlook the phishing resource filter available in many modern browsers.<\/p>\n
