Developers of the Linux Mint distribution informed<\/a><\/noindex>, that the next significant release based on the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS package base will only support 64-bit systems. The creation of builds for 32-bit x86 systems will be discontinued. The release is expected in July or late June. The supported desktop environments include Cinnamon, MATE, and Xfce.<\/p>\n

It is worth noting that Canonical stopped creating 32-bit installation builds back in Ubuntu 18.04, and in Ubuntu 20.04 to ensure the pre-installation of RHEL, and also joined the efforts to include drivers in the main Linux kernel for top-notch compatibility with any Linux distributions.<\/a><\/noindex> it will completely cease building packages for the i386 architecture (including the abandonment of multiarch library creation necessary for running 32-bit applications in a 64-bit environment), but then reconsidered<\/a><\/noindex> its decision and provided for the creation and delivery 32-bit packages with libraries will be built and supplied.<\/a><\/noindex> of 32-bit packages with libraries necessary to continue the operation of outdated programs that remain only in 32-bit form or require 32-bit libraries. <\/p>\n
