In January of this year, an APK analysis showed<\/a><\/noindex>, that Google is working on a call recording feature in the \"Phone\" app. This week, the resource XDA Developers reported<\/a><\/noindex>, that support for this feature has already appeared on some Nokia phones in India. Now Google itself has published information on how to use the \"Phone\" app for call recording. After a while the page was removed<\/a><\/noindex>, but \"the Internet remembers everything\".<\/p>\n

According to Google's support page, for call recording, the device must run on Android 9 or later, and the latest version of the \"Phone\" app must be installed. Additionally, the feature does not work in all regions. Recording a call will apparently be just as easy as using speakerphone \u2014 you just need to press a button on the screen. However, the document does not specify which devices and countries are involved. <\/p>\n

Further in the document, it is stated: when a user first activates the call recording feature, they are informed that they are responsible for complying with local laws (in many regions, consent from all parties is required before recording starts). The document also states: \"When you start recording, the other party hears a notification informing them of this. When the recording stops, the other party hears a similar notification about the stop.\" Additionally, the document mentions that recording does not occur while the other party is not answering the call, when the call is on hold, or disconnected, as well as in conference call scenarios.<\/p>\n

Recorded calls are stored on the device, not in the cloud. Users can access them through the \"Phone\" app by simply tapping the \"Recent\" button and then selecting the contact's name. In this interface, users can play back the recording, delete it or share it via email or messaging services.<\/p>\n

There is currently no information on when this feature will become available on Android, but since some users in India are already using it and Google is publishing documentation, the launch could happen very soon.
