Good day, dear readers of Habr!<\/p>\n

On December 23, 2019, the final episode of one of the most popular IT-related series was released \u2014 Mr. Robot<\/b>. Having watched the series to the end, I firmly decided to write an article about it on Habr. The release of this article coincides with my anniversary on the portal. My first article<\/a><\/noindex> was published exactly 2 years ago.<\/p>\n

Key characters<\/h4>\n

\nLet's start with the main character of the series. His name is Elliot Alderson<\/b>. <\/p>\n

\nElliot is a young cybersecurity engineer by day and a hacktivist by night. Elliot is an introvert and socially awkward. Due to constant feelings of anxiety and worry, he struggles to communicate with others. He has been diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder, meaning a disorder of multiple personalities. Elliot can lose control over his body, and the control shifts to him<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Mr. Robot<\/h4>\n

\nMr. Robot is Elliot's second personality. He is his father. The father he deserved. Later, he will be referred to as the guise of \"The Defender\".<\/b>Mr. Robot is the co-founder and leader of the hacking group fsociety<\/b> (\"F*** Society\"), a revolutionary prophet who plans to destroy the world's largest conglomerate. Though he is smart and charismatic, Mr. Robot also emotionally manipulates and can be quick to violence. This has led to comparisons with the behavior of militant cult leaders.<\/p>\n

Darlene Alderson<\/h4>\n

\nElliot's sister. She is also a hacktivist. Darlene is one of the few people who sees through Elliot and always knows who she is talking to. She can see what Elliot cannot.<\/p>\n

Angela Moss<\/h4>\n

\nAngela is the second person who knows Elliot. They grew up together and both lost their parents due to a chemical leak. He lost his father, she lost her mother. Angela is a close friend of Elliot, whom he secretly loves. The love was unrequited.<\/p>\n

White Rose<\/h4>\n

\nWhite Rose is a hacker, the mysterious leader of the organization 'Dark Army'. She is a transgender woman from China, obsessed with the idea of time manipulation. When she meets Elliot Alderson, she gives him three minutes to discuss an attack on Evil Corp (E-Corp). White Rose's motives are inexplicable, and when Elliot asks why she helps the 'F Society', she doesn't answer because Elliot has exceeded his three-minute limit.<\/p>\n

In public, White Rose appears as a man, Minister Zheng from China's Ministry of State Security. As him, she meets with FBI agents investigating the hack of Evil Corp's electronic records.<\/p>\n

Supporting Characters<\/h4>\n

\nTyrell Wellick<\/b><\/p>\n

\nYes, you heard that right. Tyrell is a supporting character (at least, that's how Sam Esmail envisioned it). Wellick is the Senior Vice President of IT at Evil Corp. He desires the conglomerate's downfall just as much as Elliot does, and for that, he is willing to do anything.<\/p>\n

Romero<\/b><\/p>\n

\nRomero is a cybercriminal, engineer, and biologist specializing in fracking and marijuana cultivation. Romero is a professional in his field; however, his thirst for fame and willfulness lead to conflicts with other members of the fsociety group.<\/p>\n

Mobley<\/b><\/p>\n

\nSunil Markesh, a hacker known as 'Mobley', is a member of the 'F Society'. Mobley is an example of a hacker as portrayed by those outside of IT. He is overweight, always on edge, and arrogant.<\/p>\n

Trenton<\/b><\/p>\n

\nShama Biswas, a hacker also known as Trenton, is a participant in the 'F Society' group. Trenton's parents immigrated from Iran to America in search of freedom. Her father works 60 hours a week, helping to find ways for a millionaire art dealer to evade taxes. Trenton has a younger brother named Mohammed. The family lives in Brooklyn, and she attends a nearby university. I think it's clear who she represents.<\/p>\n

Krista Gordon<\/b><\/p>\n

\nPsychologist Elliot. Krista tries to help Elliot understand himself, but she finds it difficult.<\/p>\n

Dominic Di Piero<\/b><\/p>\n

\nDominic \"Dom\" Di Piero is an FBI special agent investigating the hacking case of 5\/9 (Elliot's attack). Although Dom is self-confident and persistent at work, she has no personal life, relationships, or close friends. Instead, she interacts in anonymous sex chats and often converses with Alexa \u2014 the Amazon Echo smart speaker.<\/p>\n

Irving<\/b><\/p>\n

\nIrving is a high-ranking member of the Dark Army. The character is quite colorful and embodies a successful mercenary who will do anything to satisfy his employer.<\/p>\n

Leon<\/b><\/p>\n

\nAt first glance, Leon is a friend of Elliot Alderson, with whom he occasionally has lunch or plays basketball. He behaves casually, loves to chat, and often discusses TV shows. Secretly, he is an agent of the Dark Army tasked with protecting Elliot during his imprisonment. Leon has many connections in prison circles and traffickers, such as those involved in pornography and drugs.<\/p>\n

In many series, secondary characters are underdeveloped, but not in the show \"Mr. Robot.\" Each character is crafted in such a way that people see familiar faces in them and ask to keep their favorite heroes. For example, Tyrell made it all the way to the fourth season, even though the show's creator, Sam Esmail, wanted to remove him in the second.<\/p>\n

The level of detail in the development of secondary characters deserves applause from the writers.<\/p>\n

Producer, Director, Writer<\/h4>\n

\nSam Esmail got his first computer when he was nine years old. The boy began learning programming and writing his code a few years later. While attending New York University, he worked in a computer lab. This continued until he was placed on academic probation for a \"stupid act.\"
\nIn the film, he portrayed not just a random hacker, but himself (to some extent). He understood who Elliot was and how to organize a hack in real life. That's why the hacking appears very realistic and spectacular.<\/p>\n

2 interesting facts. <\/p>\n

  1. Sam Esmail gifted Elliot his birthday.<\/li>\n
  2. In the fourth season, he is the one who injects poison into Elliot with the phrase \"Goodbye, friend.\"<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \nOverall, the story ended up in good hands. The author knew every aspect inside out, having been a writer, director, and producer, which helped avoid disputes about 'money,' 'brains,' and 'vision.'<\/p>\n

    Plot<\/h4>\n

    \nThe plot of the series is as simple as a glass. Elliot wants to hack the company 'Zet,' which he calls 'Evil Corp' (in the original we see the company's name as the English letter 'E,' while Elliot refers to it as 'Evil'). He needs to hack it to destroy this evil corporation and free society from oppression. He aims to liberate people from debts, loans, and credits, thereby giving them freedom.<\/p>\n

    I won\u2019t talk about what happens inside the film. You know it yourself, and if you don\u2019t\u2014better watch it and draw your own conclusions. I will discuss the finale.<\/p>\n

    The Finale We Deserved<\/h4>\n

    \nThis is one of those cases where the finale changed the entire perception of the series, and the media rushed to cover it.
    \nFirstly, fortunately, the ending is not like the series 'Lost,' where what happens is just a dog\u2019s dream.
    \nSecondly, 'Mr. Robot' brilliantly created a catharsis in the last episode. Besides, as always, the exquisite cinematography, direction, and acting make the finale 'roll' the viewer through 'emotional roller coasters.' Strangely enough, the ending flips everything we knew about the plot upside down, while still putting everything in its place. The audience is left breathless, admiring, exulting, grabbing their heads in shock, overwhelmed by nostalgia\u2014a storm of emotions, all within just one hour.<\/p>\n

    Only a few series manage to bid farewell to their viewers appropriately. Walter White nostalgically strolls through the lab at the end of 'Breaking Bad,' reminiscing about his journey with the audience. He even looks directly at the camera, saying goodbye. In the finale of 'Mr. Robot,' viewers are given a special role. In a scene obviously inspired by '2001: A Space Odyssey,' we are also asked to leave, because while we are watching, the show won\u2019t end. Emma Garland from Vice named the series 'defining for the 2010s' even before the finale aired. Her words proved prophetic: 'Mr. Robot' perfectly concludes a decade in which the television industry entered a new 'golden age,' honoring us, the viewers, without whom it wouldn\u2019t have happened.<\/p>\n

    6 characters<\/h4>\n

    \nElliot has 6 personalities. Just think about it, six!<\/p>\n

    I'll go through them all:<\/p>\n

    1. The Host. The real Elliot that we didn't see in the movie not a single time<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    2. The Organizer (mastermind). The Elliot that we see 98% of the airtime.<\/li>\n
    3. The Protector. Mr. Robot.<\/li>\n
    4. The Accuser. The image of Elliot's mother, who was very strict with him throughout his childhood.<\/li>\n
    5. The Child. Young Elliot, who reminds him of who he is.<\/li>\n
    6. The Observer. A friend. All the viewers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      \nThe fourth wall has been completely destroyed. Simply amazing work!<\/p>\n

      The Soundtrack<\/h4>\n

      \nI've decided to break this section into two parts \u2014 ambient and soundtrack by various artists.<\/p>\n

      Ambient<\/h4>\n

      \nAmbient is background music that sets the tone for the film. All the ambient music was composed by Mac Quayle, who did an excellent job. The film has 7 albums of the original soundtrack. Each melody subtly conveys the atmosphere of the film. There were practically no misses.<\/p>\n
