The Python Software Foundation, which oversees the development of the reference implementation of the Python programming language, introduced<\/a><\/noindex> is planning to migrate the error tracking infrastructure of CPython from bugs.python.org<\/a><\/noindex> to GitHub. The code repositories were translated<\/a><\/noindex> hosted on GitHub as the primary platform since 2017. GitLab was also considered as an option, but the decision to use GitHub was motivated by the fact that this service is more familiar to core developers, newcomers, and external contributors.<\/p>\n

The governing board approved<\/a><\/noindex> is conducting the migration. Currently, the phase of surveying participants has started, after which a final decision on switching to the new error tracking system will be made on June 12. The transition will begin on June 22. The error tracking systems of all other Python Software Foundation projects, except CPython, have already been migrated to GitHub. <\/p>\n

The currently used service bugs.python.org, based on the Roundup<\/a><\/noindex>, is outdated, fails to meet<\/a><\/noindex> the developers' requirements, significantly lags behind GitHub Issues in functionality, takes developers' time for maintenance, is tied to Mercurial, is unfamiliar to newcomers, does not support a REST API for interaction with external systems, does not support continuous integration and bots, discloses users' email addresses, and has issues with account creation. Additionally, it can be noted that bugs.python.org, like bugs.php.net, is hosted on IP addresses subject to<\/a><\/noindex> under blocking<\/a><\/noindex> Roskomnadzor.<\/p>\n
