The hacker group ShinyHunters has breached the databases of ten major companies, gaining access to the personal information of 73 million individuals. The stolen data is already being sold on the dark web for a total of around $18,000. Details about the incident shared<\/a><\/noindex> the publication ZDNet.<\/p>\n

\"Hackers<\/p>\n

Each database is sold separately. To prove the authenticity of the stolen information, the group released part of it publicly. According to ZDNet, the released information indeed belongs to real individuals.<\/p>\n

Hackers have breached the databases of ten companies, which include:<\/p>\n

  1. The dating service Zoosk (30 million records);<\/li>\n
  2. The printing service Chatbooks (15 million records);<\/li>\n
  3. The South Korean fashion platform SocialShare (6 million records);<\/li>\n
  4. The food delivery service Home Chef (8 million records);<\/li>\n
  5. The marketplace Minted (5 million records);<\/li>\n
  6. The online newspaper Chronicle of Higher Education (3 million records);<\/li>\n
  7. The South Korean furniture magazine GGuMim (2 million records);<\/li>\n
  8. The medical journal Mindful (2 million records);<\/li>\n
  9. The Indonesian online store Bhinneka (1.2 million records);<\/li>\n
  10. The American publication StarTribune (1 million records).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The authors from ZDNet contacted representatives of the above-mentioned companies, but many of them have not responded yet. Only the company Chatbooks replied and confirmed that its site had indeed been breached.<\/p>\n

    This same group of hackers had breached Indonesia's largest online store, Tokopedia, a week earlier. Initially, the attackers freely released personal data of 15 million users. Later, they put up for sale the full database with 91 million records and asked for $5,000 for it. Likely, the breach of these ten companies was inspired by the previous success.<\/p>\n

    The hacker group ShinyHunters is being monitored by a number of cybersecurity watchdogs, including companies like Cyble, Under the Breach, and ZeroFOX. It is believed that the hackers in this group are somehow connected to the Gnosticplayers group, which was particularly active in 2019. Both groups operate in identical ways and release data of millions of users onto the dark web.<\/p>\n

    There are dozens of hacker groups around the world, and police are constantly searching for their members. Recently, law enforcement agencies in Poland and Switzerland managed to arrest<\/a><\/noindex> hackers from the InfinityBlack group, which was involved in data theft, fraud, and distributing tools for carrying out cyberattacks.<\/p>\n
