Linux-Hardware.org<\/a><\/noindex>Among the most sought-after features of the database are driver search for devices, functionality tests, anonymization of collected system logs, and statistical reports. The uses of the database are varied \u2014 one can simply create a list of all devices, send logs to developers for troubleshooting, or save a 'snapshot' of the current state of the computer for future comparison in case of issues, among other things.<\/p>\n

As with Linux systems, the database is updated using the program hw-probe<\/a><\/noindex> (version 1.6-BETA has been specifically released for BSD). This program allows abstraction from differences between BSD systems and generates a device list in a unified format. Recall that unlike Linux, there is no single way to generate lists of PCI\/USB and other devices in BSD systems. In FreeBSD, pciconf\/usbconfig is used for this, in OpenBSD \u2014 pcidump\/usbdevs, and in NetBSD \u2014 pcictl\/usbctl.<\/p>\n
