Thanks to the sensor with an enormous resolution of 108 MP, the main camera Galaxy S20 Ultra<\/a><\/noindex> is capable of taking pictures with incredible detail and digital zoom compared to the standard 12 MP cameras on the Galaxy S20 and S20+. However, the S20 Ultra has its limitations: its main camera is less convenient than the 12 MP cameras of the Galaxy S20 and S20+ when it comes to focusing on close objects, due to the longer focal length.<\/p>\n

From a non-professional standpoint, the main camera of the Galaxy S20 Ultra does not allow getting as close to objects as the camera on the smaller Galaxy S20 models without losing focus: this hardware limitation cannot be resolved through software. To work around this, Samsung added a new camera feature to the Galaxy S20 Ultra with the latest update.<\/p>\n

This new feature is similar to macro mode: every time the user brings the device too close to an object and the Galaxy S20 Ultra realizes it can't focus properly, a switch labeled «Use close-up zoom» now appears.<\/p>\n

By pressing this switch, a digital zoom mode of 1.5x will activate, allowing the user to take a macro shot without the need to physically hold the phone close to the object. Additionally, the phone will even helpfully suggest moving the camera away from the object to get a focused photo. In practice, it looks like this:<\/p>\n

Many have likely used this trick (using digital zoom for macro photography), and the zoom scale makes the process more or less automated. Essentially, the new feature is designed to help beginners navigate the camera functions with tips when attempting to take macro photos. The sensor's resolution allows for fairly sharp shots with 1.5x zoom.<\/p>\n

It is worth emphasizing that this feature is not available on the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+. This is likely because those models have more advanced autofocus systems, can shoot from a closer distance, and the sensor resolution of 12 MP is insufficient to rely on 1.5x digital zoom.<\/p>\n
