Linux Lite 5.0, codenamed 'Emerald', is based on the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS distribution, with the Linux kernel version 5.4.0-33, utilizing the XFCE desktop environment. The OS comes with updated versions of software such as: LibreOffice 6.4.3.2, Gimp 2.10.18, Thunderbird 68.8.0, Firefox 76.0.1, and VLC 3.0.9.2.<\/p>\n

'The final version of Linux Lite 5.0 Emerald is now available for download and installation. This is the most feature-rich and complete release of Linux Lite to date. This is the release that many have been waiting for. UEFI is now supported out of the box. The GUFW firewall has been replaced with the more functional FireWallD (disabled by default),' says Jerry Bezencon, creator of Linux Lite.<\/p>\n

The OS also includes the latest versions of software: Google Chrome browser, Chromium (in snap package format), Etcher (software for writing OS images to SD cards and USB drives), NitroShare (cross-platform application for sharing files within a local network\u2014ideal for those who want to avoid dealing with Samba), the Telegram messenger, and the Zim text editor for note-taking (which replaces the unsupported CherryTree).<\/p>\n
