Two years after the last release introduced<\/a><\/noindex> release of the instant messaging client Pidgin 2.14<\/a><\/noindex>, supporting networks such as XMPP, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, ICQ, IRC, and Novell GroupWise. The graphical interface of Pidgin is built using the GTK+ library and features capabilities like a unified address book, simultaneous operation across multiple networks, a tab-based interface, avatar support, and integration with the notification areas of Windows, GNOME, and KDE. Plugin support allows for easy functionality extension of Pidgin, and the implementation of basic protocol support in a separate library, libpurple, enables the creation of custom implementations based on Pidgin technologies (e.g., Adium for macOS).<\/p>\n

This release will be the last in the 2.X.0 branch, and all developers' efforts will be focused on Pidgin 3.0<\/a><\/noindex>. Among the changes<\/a><\/noindex> the highlights in this version are the support for XMPP Stream Management (XEP-0198), fixes for memory leaks in search results, support for Server Name Indication (SNI) in GnuTLS, numerous improvements for video conferencing, and support for screen sharing via XDP Portal when using Wayland. In purple-remote, compatibility with Python 3 is ensured, while retaining the ability to use Python 2.<\/p>\n
