Canonical introduced<\/a><\/noindex> project Ubuntu Appliance<\/a><\/noindex>, which began the publication of fully configured Ubuntu builds optimized for rapid deployment of ready server handlers on Raspberry Pi or PCs. Currently, builds are offered for running cloud storage and collaboration platforms NextCloud<\/a><\/noindex>, MQTT broker Mosquitto<\/a><\/noindex>, media server Plex<\/a><\/noindex>, home automation platform OpenHAB<\/a><\/noindex> and ad-filtering DNS server AdGuard<\/a><\/noindex>. The builds allow you to transform any PC or Raspberry Pi board into a task-specific server system with minimal effort, with updates and maintenance performed automatically.<\/p>\n

The builds are based on Ubuntu Core<\/a><\/noindex> and pre-configured thematic snap packages. Ubuntu Core is a compact version of the Ubuntu distribution that uses a monolithic model for building the base system image, instead of traditional deb packages, on top of which self-sufficient extensions in snap format run. The platform employs an atomic update mechanism for snap packages and the base system. To ensure security, each system component is verified by a digital signature, preventing hidden modifications or the installation of unverified snap packages. The components delivered in Snap format are isolated using AppArmor and Seccomp, while the base filesystem is mounted in read-only mode. Updates are released regularly and delivered over-the-air (OTA).<\/p>\n
