Support for the new branch will be provided for 5 years, until June 2025. <\/p>\n<p>The development of MariaDB is overseen by the independent MariaDB Foundation, following a fully open and transparent development process that is not dependent on individual vendors. MariaDB is offered as a substitute for MySQL in many Linux distributions (RHEL, SUSE, Fedora, openSUSE, Slackware, OpenMandriva, ROSA, Arch Linux, Debian) and is implemented in major projects such as <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=36759\">Wikipedia<\/a><\/noindex>, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=37905\">Google Cloud SQL<\/a><\/noindex> and <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=36506\">Nimbuzz<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n<p>Key <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/mdb-1054-rn\/\">improvements<\/a><\/noindex> <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/changes-improvements-in-mariadb-105\/\">MariaDB 10.5<\/a><\/noindex>:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> A new storage engine has been added <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/s3-storage-engine\/\">S3<\/a><\/noindex>, allowing MariaDB tables to be stored in Amazon S3 or any other public or private cloud storage that supports the S3 API. S3 storage supports both regular and partitioned tables. When partitioned tables are stored in the cloud, they can be directly accessed from another server that has access to the S3 storage.\n<li class=\"l\"> A new storage engine has been added <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/mariadb-columnstore\/\">ColumnStore<\/a><\/noindex>, which stores data column-wise and uses <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%D0%9C%D0%B0%D1%81%D1%81%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%BE-%D0%BF%D0%B0%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%BB%D0%BB%D0%B5%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%BD%D0%B0%D1%8F_%D0%B0%D1%80%D1%85%D0%B8%D1%82%D0%B5%D0%BA%D1%82%D1%83%D1%80%D0%B0\">massively parallel<\/a><\/noindex> distributed architecture. The engine is based on the MySQL storage technology <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=25267\">InfiniDB<\/a><\/noindex> and is intended for organizing processing and executing analytical queries over large datasets (Data Warehouse).<br \/>\nColumnStore stores data not by rows but by columns, allowing for optimized execution of column grouping from a large database containing petabytes of data. It supports linear scaling, data storage in a compressed format, vertical and horizontal partitioning, and efficient execution of concurrent queries.<\/p>\n<li class=\"l\"> All executable files beginning with the word &#171;mysql&#187; have been renamed using the word &#171;mariadb&#187;. The old names are preserved as symbolic links.\n<li class=\"l\"> A new data type has been added <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/mariadb.com\/kb\/en\/inet6\/\">INET6<\/a><\/noindex> for storing IPv6 addresses.\n<li class=\"l\"> Work has been completed to break down privileges into smaller components. Instead of the general SUPER privilege, a series of selective privileges has been proposed: &#171;BINLOG ADMIN&#187;,<br \/>\n    &#171;BINLOG REPLAY&#187;,<br \/>\n    &#171;CONNECTION ADMIN&#187;,<br \/>\n    &#171;FEDERATED ADMIN&#187;,<br \/>\n    &#171;READ_ONLY ADMIN&#187;,<br \/>\n    &#171;REPLICATION MASTER ADMIN&#187;,<br \/>\n    &#171;REPLICATION SLAVE ADMIN&#187; and<br \/>\n    &#171;SET USER&#187;. <\/p>\n<li class=\"l\"> The privilege &#171;REPLICATION CLIENT&#187; has been renamed to &#171;BINLOG MONITOR&#187;, and the expression &#171;SHOW MASTER STATUS&#187; has been changed to &#171;SHOW BINLOG STATUS&#187;. The renaming clarifies behavior and is not related to political correctness; the project does not abandon the terms master\/slave and has even added new privileges &#171;MASTER ADMIN&#187; and &#171;SLAVE ADMIN&#187;.
