Recently, Apple has offered the new AMD Radeon Pro 5600M mobile graphics card as an exclusive option for the MacBook Pro 16, which combines the Navi 12 (RDNA) GPU and HBM2 memory. For its installation, buyers will have to pay an additional $700 on top of the base price of the laptop. It's not cheap, but in this case, the buyer will get a true gaming monster.<\/p>\n

Previously, the Radeon Pro 5600M showed excellent results in synthetic tests conducted by Max Tech. In the same Geekbench 5 Metal, its performance was 50% higher than that of the Radeon Pro 5500M. Now it's time for practical gaming tests.<\/p>\n

Windows 10 was installed on the MacBook Pro 16 using Bootcamp with basic drivers.<\/p>\n

First, Fortnite was launched on the MacBook Pro 16 with an Intel Core i9-9980HK processor (2.4\/5.0 GHz), 32 GB of RAM, and Radeon Pro 5600M, at the native screen resolution of 3072 \u00d7 1920 (3K) with automatic graphics settings. Under these conditions, the game's performance was 88 frames per second. At times, the FPS counter reached the psychologically significant mark of 100 FPS.<\/p>\n

When the game was launched on the same system but in Windows 10 (via Bootcamp) at the native screen resolution and 'epic' settings, the FPS dropped to 33 frames per second. Lowering the settings to high and 3D Resolution to 100% increased the average frame rate to 50. Further reducing the 3D resolution to 36% (equivalent to 1080p) allowed to achieve 144 frames per second at 'epic' game settings.<\/p>\n

The Radeon Pro 5600M also performed excellently in Call of Duty: Warzone. When scaling the resolution down to 60% (1843 \u00d7 1152 pixels \u2014 higher than Full HD), the game ran at a frame rate of no less than 100\u2013140 FPS. This performance is comparable to that of a full mobile graphics card, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060. It is worth noting that the TDP of the Radeon Pro 5600M is only 50 W, compared to 80 W for the NVIDIA solution. When the resolution was increased to QuadHD (2427 \u00d7 1517 pixels) with maximum graphics settings, the Radeon Pro 5600M was able to deliver an average of 60 frames per second. Even at the native 3K resolution, the maximum FPS reached nearly 70 frames.<\/p>\n

The level of performance for the MacBook Pro in gaming is quite impressive. However, you will have to pay a hefty sum for it. For the MacBook Pro 16 configuration used in the gaming test, you'll need to spend almost<\/a><\/noindex> $4000. At this price point, it's better to consider a full-fledged gaming laptop based on Windows if you really want a portable system for gaming.<\/p>\n
