The motivation for using nano as the default text editor instead of vi is to make the distribution more accessible for beginners, providing an editor that any user without specialized knowledge of vi can use. At the same time, the plan is to continue supplying the vim-minimal package in the basic distribution (the direct call to vi will remain) and to allow users the option to change the default editor to vi or vim if they prefer. Currently, in Fedora, the environment variable $EDITOR is not set, and by default, commands like \"git commit\" invoke vi. <\/p>\n

Additionally, the development of the experimental editor Onivim 2<\/a><\/noindex>, which combines the performance of Sublime, the integration capabilities of VSCode, and the modal editing methods of Vim, is noteworthy. The editor offers a modern user interface, supports VSCode plugins, and works on Linux, macOS, and Windows. The project is written<\/a><\/noindex> in the language Reason<\/a><\/noindex> (which uses OCaml syntax for JavaScript) and the Revery GUI framework. For working with buffers and organizing editing, libvim is used.
