According to Salvatore, in recent years his work has mostly revolved around reviewing external suggestions for improving and modifying the code, but this is not what he wanted to do, as he prefers writing code and creating something new over addressing routine maintenance tasks.<\/p>\n

Salvatore will remain on the advisory board of Redis Labs, but will limit himself to generating ideas. The development and maintenance will be handed over to the community. The project lead position has been passed to Yossi Gottlieb and Oran Agra, who assisted Salvatore in recent years, understand his vision for the project, care about preserving the spirit of the Redis community, and are well-versed in the code and internal workings of Redis. The question of defining the future development model and interaction with the community has been proposed to be worked on by the new maintainers, who are already announced<\/a><\/noindex> developing a new governance structure that will involve the community. The new project structure is intended to expand teamwork, allowing for the scaling of development and maintenance processes. The goal is to make the project open and friendly for community members, making it easier for them to take a more active and significant role in development.<\/p>\n

The proposed governance model<\/a><\/noindex> includes a small group of key developers (core team), which will consist of selected participants who have demonstrated their abilities, are well-acquainted with the code, actively participating in development, and understanding the project's goals. Currently, the Core Team includes three developers from Redis Labs \u2014 Yossi Gottlieb and Oran Agra, who have taken the lead positions, as well as Itamar Haber, who has become the community lead. In the near future, a few participants from the community will be elected to the Core Team based on their contributions to the project's development. For significant decisions, such as fundamental changes to the Redis core, adding new structures, altering the serialization protocol, and making backward-incompatible changes, reaching a consensus among all Core Team members is preferred. <\/p>\n

As the community grows, new needs for functionality expansion may arise for Redis, but the new leaders emphasize maintaining fundamental project attributes such as a focus on efficiency and speed, a commitment to simplicity, the principle of \"less but better,\" and making the right decisions by default.<\/p>\n
