The IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force), which is responsible for developing internet protocols and architecture, has completed<\/a><\/noindex> Formation of the RFC for the 'DNS Push Notifications' mechanism and published the related specification under the identifier RFC 8765<\/a><\/noindex>. The RFC obtained the status of 'Proposed Standard', after which work will begin to elevate the RFC to 'Draft Standard' status, effectively signifying the complete stabilization of the protocol and the consideration of all given remarks.<\/p>\n

The 'DNS Push Notification' mechanism allows the client to asynchronously receive notifications from the DNS server about changes to DNS records, without the need for periodic polling. Push notifications are processed solely using TCP transport with connection security via 'TLS over TCP'. The authoritative DNS server can accept TCP connections from DNS Push Notification clients who are sending subscription requests for specific names and types of DNS records. Once a subscription request is received, the server will send the client notifications about changes to the specified records. <\/p>\n

The client determines the support for DNS Push Notification by sending a regular DNS request to check for the existence of the SRV record '_dns-push-tls._tcp.zone_name', which points to the DNS servers managing the subscriptions. The client can also subscribe to a non-existing record, and the server must notify the client if it appears in the future. Notifications are sent only if a TCP connection with the server is established and are not intended for 24\/7 tracking \u2014 the subscription should be canceled during inactivity (for example, when the device goes into sleep mode) and used only when there is a direct need to monitor changes in real-time. Through the established TCP channel for Push notifications, regular DSN requests can also be sent.<\/p>\n
