The project focuses on high-quality design aimed at creating an easy-to-use system that consumes minimal resources while providing high boot speed. Users are offered their own Pantheon desktop environment.  <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The original components of Elementary OS are developed using GTK3, the Vala language, and the proprietary Granite framework. The distribution is based on the developments from the Ubuntu project. At the package and repository support level, Elementary OS 5.1.x is compatible with Ubuntu 18.04. The graphical environment is based on the custom Pantheon shell, which integrates components such as the Gala window manager (based on LibMutter), the WingPanel top panel, the Slingshot launcher, the Switchboard control panel, and the bottom taskbar. <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/wiki.go-docky.com\/index.php?title=Plank:Introduction\">Plank<\/a><\/noindex> (a reworked version of the Docky panel written in Vala) and the Pantheon Greeter session manager (based on LightDM).<\/p>\n<p>The environment includes a set of tightly integrated applications necessary for user tasks. Among the applications, a large portion consists of the project's own developments, such as the Pantheon Terminal emulator, the Pantheon Files file manager, the text editor <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=47853\">Code<\/a><\/noindex> and the music player Music (Noise). The project is also developing the Pantheon Photos photo manager (a branch of Shotwell) and the Pantheon Mail email client (a branch of Geary). <\/p>\n<p>Key innovations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> In Code, the text editor designed for developers, a feature has been added that allows scrolling beyond the end of the file to position the final code conveniently on the screen. The process of saving and reading data about window size and position has been optimized to minimize disk access. An issue with the shifting or clearing of the sidebar with directories, which made the 'Open project folder' button invisible, has been resolved. A placeholder has been added in the Outline\/Symbols plugin, which is displayed when there are no variables, constants, or other identifiers in the code.\n<p><center><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.elementary.io\/images\/hera-updates-for-june-2020\/code@2x.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Update of Elementary OS distribution 5.1.6\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/71bfa65e5d2644f912f25131686eaf58.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/a><\/noindex><\/center><\/p>\n<li class=\"l\"> In the AppCenter, issues causing high CPU load when displaying certain screenshots and hiding information about updates for Flatpak runtime have been fixed.\n<li class=\"l\"> In the file manager, the color of the disk space indicator in the sidebar changes when free space is exhausted.<br \/>\nRegressive changes in the file path selection panel that lead to issues with selection and context menu invocation have been fixed. File handling for files containing the '#' symbol has been improved. An issue with resizing the window when long file names are present in the list has been resolved.<\/p>\n<li class=\"l\"> In the video player, processing of large video collections has been sped up and correct handling of the disappearance or movement of directories has been ensured.<br \/>\nIssues with displaying external subtitles have been resolved.<\/p>\n<li class=\"l\"> The time indicator now correctly displays times of events from the calendar-scheduler created in a different time zone.\n<li class=\"l\"> The framework for developing graphical applications has been updated to version 5.5.0, which will be used in the release of Elementary OS 6. <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/elementary\/granite\">Granite<\/a><\/noindex>, which now includes new styles Granite.STYLE_CLASS_COLOR_BUTTON and Granite.STYLE_CLASS_ROUNDED. The Granite.Widgets.SourceList widget now includes a sidebar (Gtk.STYLE_CLASS_SIDEBAR) by default.
