As part of the project VKD3D-Proton<\/a><\/noindex> a branch has been created from the codebase vkd3d<\/a><\/noindex>. The specified fork will be used by Valve in the Wine-based package for running Windows games called Proton. Support for DirectX 9\/10\/11 in Proton is based on the package DXVK<\/a><\/noindex>, while the implementation of DirectX 12 has so far been based on the vkd3d library (after the death<\/a><\/noindex> of the vkd3d author, the development of this component continued<\/a><\/noindex> is handled by CodeWeavers and the Wine community). The development of VKD3D-Proton involves<\/a><\/noindex> Hans-Kristian Arntzen (Hans-Kristian Arntzen<\/a><\/noindex>, the author of the toolkit SPIRV-Cross<\/a><\/noindex> and developer of several Vulkan API extensions), Philippe Rebohle (Philip Rebohle<\/a><\/noindex>, the author of DXVK) and Joshua Ashton (Joshua Ashton<\/a><\/noindex>, the author of D9VK<\/a><\/noindex>),

VKD3D-Proton is planned to support Proton-specific changes, optimizations, and enhancements for improved performance of Windows games based on Direct3D 12, which have not yet been accepted into the main vkd3d codebase. Notably, it also emphasizes the use of modern Vulkan extensions and the capabilities of the latest graphics driver releases to achieve full compatibility with Direct3D 12. VKD3D-Proton is not aimed at maintaining backward compatibility with the original vkd3d API and does not rule out the cessation of support for older GPUs and graphics drivers.<\/p>\n
