Making a temporary email service truly comfortable for yourself is not an easy task. It might seem simple: just Google 'temporary email', find a bunch of sites in the results, choose a mailbox, and move on with your online activities. However, when you need to use temporary email more than once a year, it's better to choose such a site more carefully. I share my experience in the form of a ranking of 5 temporary email services that I have used.<\/p>\n

What is temporary email?<\/h3>\n

\nTemporary email is a service that provides users with an email address on its site for a limited time. Usually, it expires by itself after a few minutes. However, to spoil the surprise, I will say that there are already sites where it lasts for several days. <\/p>\n

To create such an email, you need to visit the provider's site and click the 'Get' button. Overall, each temporary email site provides <\/a><\/noindex>a convenient service where you don't have to take time to register or fill out multiple fields with your data. You simply visit the site, create an address, and enter it on the needed site to start corresponding. To disable this email, just close the browser tab or wait for 10 minutes. <\/p>\n

Situations When Temporary Email May Be Useful<\/h3>\n

  1. Protection against spam. This type of mailbox is best used for registration on any unreliable site \u2014 for example, giving it to the WiFi provider at the airport (not very relevant during quarantine, of course, but sooner or later this hack will definitely come in handy for someone) or any potential spammer and pre-sales enthusiast. <\/li>\n
  2. Gaining access to a free course or program. I tried using temporary email to extend access to trial versions of IQBuzz and PressIndex, and when I finally settled on one of them (it was IQBuzz, for those interested), I registered the only software I needed with my main email. Since then, I've been testing everything with temporary email. <\/li>\n
  3. For checking development and email marketing. Often it's necessary to test the functionality or the display of a developed email \u2014 and temporary email helps save time and quickly sort out potential issues.<\/li>\n
  4. Correspondence with an unfamiliar sender. For those who don't want to take too many risks but are eager to meet someone online, temporary email can be a great compromise for personal safety. If a suspicious (or not so suspicious) person on a dating site wants to move the conversation to personal messages, I recommend protecting yourself at least this way. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Which service is better to choose?<\/h3>\n

    \nI decided to compare temporary email sites based on criteria that turned out to be important and decisive for me. In parentheses, I note that each of these services meets the minimum requirements to be classified as 'temporary email,' but I had to reject the first four due to their shortcomings (details below). If there's a need to compare these sites by any other criterion, let me know in the comments, and I will briefly describe it.     Temp-Mail.org<\/a><\/noindex><\/h3>\n

    \nOnce, I first needed temporary email, and this service was for a long time the only one and among the best, but then they got overwhelmed with ads. Useful features fell away one by one: the option to choose multiple domains stopped working, the mailbox started lagging, and in general, the site now looks very suspicious to Google.<\/p>\n

    \nOn the strong side, there are browser plugins and the display of temporary email API. It is also convenient that even if you close the tab and come back to the site after a few minutes, you can still see your temporary email address. This is especially convenient because by clicking links in your temporary email, you don\u2019t open a new tab but stay in the same one. Plus, there\u2019s a QR code to switch to viewing the mailbox from your smartphone. But, to be honest, this convenience is relative because now I have to withstand CAPTCHA tests before each new action.<\/p>\n

    The downsides of the service include a lot of ads and cross-links. The site is so overloaded with this junk that it looks like a spam basket where all emails are opened at the same time. And the funniest thing is that even the temporary email inbox receives automatic spam! In general, the site is currently completely unsuitable for temporary email and any purposes, unfortunately.<\/p>\n

    TempMail.Plus<\/a><\/noindex><\/h3>\n

    \nAt the moment, I am actively using this service. It contains the best features I\u2019ve seen from others \u2014 all without fluff and advertising.<\/p>\n

    \nWhat I like:
    \nThere is an option to keep all emails and the inbox for a week.<\/p>\n

    You can set a PIN code and even create a secret email address that helps keep your main email inbox name private. <\/p>\n

    You can write an email to yourself or manually delete all emails. <\/p>\n

    You can manually enter the inbox name or ask the service to generate it randomly. <\/p>\n

    One small but crucial detail \u2014 out of all the temporary email services I\u2019ve used, only the developers of TempMail Plus thought of something brilliantly simple: any link that arrives in the temporary inbox opens in a new tab, not the same one. <\/p>\n

    After months of hitting 'Back' and searching for tabs in History, this turns out to be so convenient! <\/p>\n

    What\u2019s not great: it\u2019s clear the site is new, and the design looks half-baked. Plus, based on my experience with other temporary email sites, I suspect that a site like this won\u2019t last long without advertising (although they seem to be operating on donations for now). Therefore, I acknowledge that the relevance of this ranking may change over time. But for today, TempMail.Plus is the most pleasant and effective temporary email service for me from all that exists.<\/p>\n

    10minutemail.com<\/a><\/noindex><\/h3>\n

    \nThis email service is another classic of temporary email. Thanks to 10minutemail, the term \"10-minute email\" became the main synonym for \"temporary email.\" However, like Temp-Mail.org, this service is slowly starting to lose ground compared to other competitors in the market. Though it has significantly less advertising.<\/p>\n

    \nThe main advantage of the service is its ease of use. Upon visiting the page, you see two fields: an advertisement block, a large timer counting down 10 minutes, and a field for the generated address and temporary mailbox. You enter \u2014 and everything is already set up.<\/p>\n

    However, with the increasing number of offers in the market, the lifespan of the email, which lasts only 10 minutes, turns out to be insufficient. You have to either keep the tab always open or regularly click the \u2018give me another 10 minutes\u2019 button (which, by the way, is only possible 10 times). Plus, in my registration with PressIndex, the temporary email failed \u2014 in 10 minutes, no email arrived in the inbox. Once you refresh the tab, you lose your email forever. Therefore, in practice, this kind of email proves to be truly disposable and unsuitable for long-term correspondence.<\/p>\n

    tempinbox.xyz<\/a><\/noindex><\/h3>\n

    \nTempinbox is a relatively new player in the market and thus looks much more appealing than many other temporary email services. I used it for a long time and recommend starting your testing with this site rather than the first two \u2014 even if you only need temporary email for a very quick and trivial matter.<\/p>\n

    \nThe main convenience of tempinbox is the emphasis on maximum customization of the temporary mailbox creation process. To elaborate, there are two main ways to create email on the site. The first: click the Random button to get access to a randomly created mailbox. The second: put in a bit of effort and choose both the e-mail ID and the domain yourself \u2014 especially since the options are interesting: from the quirky fakemyinbox.com to the more serious fitschool.space. There are also minimal ads on the homepage, which feels like a breath of fresh air after 10minutemail and Temp-Mail. <\/p>\n

    The main drawback of the website: even though the temporary mailbox address remains permanently assigned to the user (read: until the domain's lifetime, for which it is registered), the emails on it automatically disappear after 24 hours. Thus, returning to something important (like a password for an account) using this service will no longer be possible. In my case, the emails self-destructed within just a few seconds. And when I needed the password for the account created yesterday, it became clear that tempinbox was no longer suitable for me.<\/p>\n

    Guerrillamail.com<\/a><\/noindex><\/h3>\n

    \nI tried switching to Guerrilla Mail. After reading positive reviews, I realized it was packed with useful features \u2014 but in practice, there were so many that nothing worked well.<\/p>\n

    \nOverall, I really like the design and UX of the site. A temporary inbox already has a message with instructions on how to use the service. The email updates every 10 seconds, and there's an option to choose from among 11 domains. Also, the site has a separate 'Send' tab, which is especially convenient for personal correspondence. <\/p>\n

    However, Guerrilla Mail turned out to be completely inconvenient for me. Emails are stored in the inbox for just one hour \u2014 which is even shorter compared to tempinbox. It's also not very convenient to copy the generated email address \u2014 you have to look for it in the instructions email. Moreover, emails to this inbox arrive with interruptions.<\/p>\n
