Chrome browser developers informed<\/a><\/noindex> have expanded tools for lazy loading web page elements, allowing content outside the visible area to not be loaded until the user scrolls to a place immediately preceding the element. Earlier, this mode was implemented in Chrome 76 and Firefox 75 for images. Now, the Chrome developers have taken another step and added the ability to lazy load iframe blocks.<\/p>\n

To manage lazy loading of pages in the «iframe» tag, a «loading» attribute has been added, which can accept the values «lazy» (defer loading), «eager» (load immediately), and «auto» (defer loading at the browser's discretion when enabling the mode Lite<\/a><\/noindex>). It is expected that lazy loading will reduce memory consumption, decrease traffic, and increase the speed of initial page loading. For instance, when the new mode is enabled, blocks with ads and widgets from Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube will not be loaded immediately if they are not visible to the user until they scroll to the position before these blocks. <\/p>\n

According to developers, on average, lazy loading is expected to save 2-3% of traffic, reduce the number of initial renderings<\/a><\/noindex> by 1-2%, and decrease input delay<\/a><\/noindex> by 2%. For specific websites, the changes are more noticeable. For example, enabling lazy loading for the YouTube block will reduce the downloaded data by approximately 500KB, Instagram \u2014 by 100KB, Spotify \u2014 by 500KB, and Facebook \u2014 by 400KB. In particular, applying lazy loading for YouTube blocks on the Chrome.com site allowed mobile devices to reduce the time to first interaction by up to 10 seconds and decrease the initially loaded JavaScript code size by 511KB. <\/p>\n
