IBM has announced a toolkit for implementing Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) technology for operating systems based on Linux (for IBM Z and x86 architectures).<\/p>\n

Previously available for macOS and iOS, the FHE toolkit from IBM is now released for Linux as well. It is supplied in the form of Docker containers for three distributions: CentOS, Fedora, and Ubuntu Linux.<\/p>\n

What is special about fully homomorphic encryption technology? This technology allows for the encryption of both static and dynamic data (\"on-the-fly\" encryption) through \"pervasive\" encryption. Thus, FHE enables working with data without decrypting it.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the Data Privacy Passports system (a consolidated information protection system) allows IBM Z clients to set permissions for data access for specific individuals using access control mechanisms and to revoke access to data even during its transmission.<\/p>\n

As reported by IBM in its press release: \"Originally proposed by mathematicians in the 1970s and first demonstrated in 2009, fully homomorphic encryption technology has become a unique way to protect the privacy of information. The idea is simple: now you can process confidential data without decrypting it first. In short, you cannot steal information if you cannot understand it.\"<\/p>\n

For IBM Z (s390x) clients, the first release of the FHE toolkit for Linux supports only Ubuntu and Fedora, while this toolkit also works on CentOS for x86 platforms.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, IBM is confident that experienced developers familiar with Docker will be able to easily port the FHE toolkit from IBM to other GNU\/Linux distributions. Each version of the toolkit provides users access to an integrated development environment (IDE) through a web browser installed on their operating system.<\/p>\n
