Starting with the 33rd release, the Fedora IoT (Internet of Things) project, positioned as a comprehensive solution for the Internet of Things, will receive official edition status of the distribution.<\/p>\n

Over the past few years, the Fedora team has been working on a distribution adapted for use within the concept of the 'Internet of Things.' This fall, starting with the release of Fedora 33, this project is expecting its first official release.<\/p>\n

Fedora IoT utilizes RPM-OSTree technology, offering atomic updates as well as containerized application isolation. The distribution supports rapid deployment using a signed GPG image, ensuring good scalability for a large number of clients. The atomicity of updates allows for easy rollback. Containers separate updates of the base OS from application updates, as well as allowing the testing and deployment of various versions. This edition is aimed at use in a wide range of projects, from industrial network gateways to smart city devices utilizing artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.<\/p>\n

The decision for the release was made by FESCo (Fedora Engineering Steering Committee) during an online discussion and voting process. The primary goal of this decision is to achieve the same popularity and recognition for Fedora IoT that Fedora Workstation and Fedora Server currently enjoy.<\/p>\n
