On September 9, the long beta testing phase came to an end, and the final build of the flight simulator X-Plane 11.50 was released. The main innovation in this version is the port of the rendering engine from OpenGL to Vulkan, significantly improving performance and frame rate under normal conditions (i.e., not just in benchmarks).<\/p>\n

X-Plane is a cross-platform (GNU\/Linux, macOS, Windows, as well as Android and iOS) flight simulator from Laminar Research, operating on the principle of a \"virtual aerodynamic tunnel\" (blade element theory), which involves the use of a standard three-dimensional model of the aircraft for physical calculations.<\/p>\n

Unlike most well-known commercial flight simulators based on averaged empirical models, this approach allows for a more accurate simulation of aircraft behavior over a wider range of conditions (in other words, it provides more realism) and even possesses some predictive power (in other words, you can draw any fictional aircraft, and it will fly as drawn).<\/p>\n

Due to the overhaul of the graphics engine in this release, there are compatibility issues with certain plugins and third-party models; a list of known issues is available in Release Notes<\/a>. Most of these issues can be temporarily bypassed by switching back to the OpenGL engine.<\/p>\n
