This is primarily due to the high production costs of OLED screens, especially for larger sizes \u2014 their prices at the beginning of the era reached millions of rubles. Today, you won\u2019t find them even in the budget segment, but we're now talking about different levels of amounts.<\/p>\n

Yes, one might raise an eyebrow upon seeing the phrase 'reasonable price' next to the cost of 200,000 to 300,000 rubles, which is asked for this TV depending on the diagonal (55 or 65 inches), but remember flagman smartphones that easily exceed the 100,000 ruble mark \u2014 that is the current price trend. In fact, the stated thickness of the TV at 52 mm comes from the acoustic system hidden in the case, various connectors, and the cooling system. The panel itself is thinner than most modern smartphones. According to company representatives, its thickness is 5.9 mm.<\/p>\n

Even with the protrusion for connectors, the Sony BRAVIA OLED A8 will occupy minimal space whether installed on feet or mounted on the wall. The feet, by the way, are height-adjustable, allowing for easy placement of a soundbar under the TV. This is very convenient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The remote is convenient, straightforward, and easy to understand.<\/p>\n

The built-in media player allows playback of files from an external storage device connected via USB, as well as transferring them to the TV's memory. Out of the stated 16 GB, 6.7 GB is available to the user \u2014 with 4K content, you won't have much room, of course. This memory is mainly needed for tech sellers \u2014 to upload demo videos. The list of codecs is extensive, with all major common formats present.<\/p>\n

Support for Chromecast (which is logical for Android TV) and Apple Airplay\/Apple HomeKit is also available.<\/p>\n

\u2193<\/a><\/noindex>#<\/a><\/noindex>Image and Sound<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The image is precisely the sole reason that justifies paying the price for an OLED panel. However, it is not enough to simply install an organic LED matrix in the TV; it also needs to be properly configured and 'shaped' to meet modern standards.<\/p>\n

Sony has no problems with this. Just peeking into the picture settings leaves you amazed at the number of parameters that can be adjusted. And the clarity with which everything is presented \u2014 each parameter is not only thoroughly described but also illustrated with images that demonstrate the effect of the changes. It's a rare meticulousness \u2014 anyone, even someone far from working with professional video technology, can adjust the picture to their liking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are many settings available, including both familiar ones (color temperature adjustment, including by individual color components; gamma; saturation; brightness; and so on) and unusual ones \u2014 in particular, the Sony BRAVIA OLED A8 offers the ability to adjust not only brightness but also color reproduction based on external lighting (yes, there is a corresponding sensor). Unfortunately, it was not possible to check how this works under changing lighting conditions as the testing conditions did not allow for this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several other specific settings include smart contrast enhancement through analysis of the current image, adjustable sharpness increase via software methods, and motion smoothing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the complaints about this television, which prevent it from joining the 'elite' club, we note the lack of support for the HDR10+ standard (only HDR10) and the absence of HDMI 2.1 support (all four inputs work with HDMI 2.0 \u2014 however, there is support for HDCP 2.3). And that concludes the complaints.<\/p>\n

The original resolution of the panel is Ultra HD (3840 \u00d7 2160). The system confidently handles original content at this resolution and also demonstrates quite good capabilities in upscaling. In this case, the image is almost noise-free and appears sufficiently sharp. On televisions with high native resolution, handling lower-quality images can become a stumbling block \u2014 the A8 model does not have such problems, partly due to the fact that it uses organic light-emitting diodes \u2014 color recalibration occurs pixel by pixel.<\/p>\n

\"New<\/p>\n

The television features the already famous X1 Ultimate processor, which, among other things, performs well in processing HDR content \u2014 motion looks natural, and the noise often associated with images in this mode is almost invisible. The same applies to SDR images 'stretched' to HDR. The Super Bit Mapping technology works excellently.<\/p>\n

As for the panel\u2019s compliance with the HDR10 standard, there are no issues here either. The maximum brightness measured under test conditions (a brightly lit room with artificial light) for static images reached 778 nits (standard display mode, brightness turned all the way up). There\u2019s no doubt that the peaks of 1000 nits specified in the HDR10 standard can be achieved without problems by the panel when working with compatible content. The conditions for contrast are inherently met by the OLED panel. It cannot be said that there are any blooming issues with a panel of this type. The TV combats potential traces of static image \u201cburn-in\u201d by pixel-shifting the picture from time to time. There should be no problems with this.<\/p>\n

The TV offers several picture presets: Bright, Standard, Cinema, Games, Graphics, Photo, User, Bright Dolby Vision, Dark Dolby Vision, Netflix Calibration Mode. I measured color accuracy in Bright and Cinematic modes, as well as in the \u201cGraphics\u201d mode, which is best suited for working with PCs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

The \u201cBright\u201d mode is essentially designed for showcasing the TV on display; it can easily be called a demo mode. The picture is maximally bright, very cool (the temperature exceeds 10,000 K), and color accuracy is not a concern; however, everything looks vibrant and maximally vivid. This mode is also suitable for watching broadcasts or sports in bright daylight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

The \"Cinema Mode\" also works with a wide color gamut (DCI-P3), but it does so much more calmly (color temperature - 7,100 K). The average DeltaE deviation across the expanded Color Checker palette (shades of gray + a wide range of colors) is 4.22 - it's small and quite forgivable given the conditions under which testing took place. In the \"Graphics\" mode, the color space corresponds to the most common one (sRGB), the color temperature is the same (note the maximally smooth line), and the average DeltaE deviation is 4.38. As a professional tool for graphic work, I probably wouldn't recommend the BRAVIA OLED A8, but considering the options for manual image adjustment, the panel can be recognized as perfectly tuned.<\/p>\n

Working with contrasting scenes even in the most complex plots is simply pleasing - transitions between light and dark shades are perfect, with no lingering glow. Hardware noise in dark scenes is imperceptible. The Dolby Vision standard is supported, and the televisions in the A8 series (both diagonals) are IMAX certified. Viewing angles are free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sony BRAVIA OLED A8 is equipped with the Acoustic Surface Audio sound system, where the screen itself essentially becomes the speakers - special actuators are installed behind it that vibrate, thereby producing sound directly from the display. Thanks to this technology, unprecedented sound source positioning for a built-in audio system is achieved. This applies both to what is happening on the screen and beyond it - the system handles such scenarios excellently. The acoustic power, consisting of two 10 W mid\/high-frequency speakers and two 5 W subwoofers, may not boast high power, but it is definitely sufficient for sound in medium-sized rooms. Located one and a half to two meters from the screen, the sound is perceived wonderfully. I noticed no serious limitations in dynamic range, with both high and low frequencies being excellently replicated. Subjectively - this is one of the best sound systems in televisions during the \"flat panel\" era that I have seen. <\/p>\n

\u2193<\/a><\/noindex>#<\/a><\/noindex>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Sony BRAVIA OLED A8<\/a><\/noindex> \u2013 a television with quite a narrow specialization, and this is definitely worth considering when making a choice. It is primarily designed to serve as a key component in a small home theater \u2013 in a medium-sized room, with or without an additional sound system (the built-in sound is very good). For a large home theater, the diagonal may not be sufficient \u2013 the maximum for this model is 65 inches. For a gaming center of the near future, it lacks 4K\/120p mode and HDMI 2.1 support \u2013 however, for the current generation of consoles, the television's capabilities are quite good: response time is normal, motion processing is high quality.<\/p>\n

But within its limits, this is arguably one of the best offerings available today. Watching movies on the Sony BRAVIA OLED A8 is truly enjoyable: it handles contrast scenes very accurately, displays motion quality, and supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision. Its good brightness even allows for some expectations from the A8 series televisions under bright sunlight, which is not always feasible for LED televisions \u2013 so it will perform well during regular \"broadcast\" use.<\/p>\n
