Rich Geldreich translated<\/a><\/noindex> the compression libraries he developed LZHAM<\/a><\/noindex> and Crunch<\/a><\/noindex> into the category of public domain<\/a><\/noindex> (Public Domain), meaning he has fully relinquished the property rights and allowed distribution and usage in any form by anyone without restrictions. For jurisdictions where the public domain is not recognized, appropriate disclaimers have been retained. Previously, the projects were distributed under MIT and ZLIB licenses.<\/p>\n

The Crunch library provides tools for compressing and transcoding textures without quality loss using algorithms DXTn<\/a><\/noindex>. Crunch supports DXT1\/5\/N and 3DC texture formats and can save results in DDS, CRN, and KTX formats. <\/p>\n

LZHAM provides a compression algorithm optimized for packaging resources delivered with game applications. It supports an API compatible with Zlib. Notable features of LZHAM include
\nthe use of mapping tables (up to 64 KB), dictionaries (up to 500 MB), multi-threaded operations, and applying delta changes, allowing the distribution of changes without repacking already compressed files.<\/p>\n

In terms of compression level and packing speed, the LZHAM implementation is comparable to LZMA, but it decompresses 1.5-8 times faster than LZMA (although it is slower than zlib). Compared to ZSTD, LZHAM outperforms this algorithm in compression efficiency but lags significantly behind in encoding speed and slightly in decoding speed.<\/p>\n
