This week saw the launch of the first graphics cards from the Ampere family \u2013 the GeForce RTX 3080, along with their reviews. Next week, on September 24, sales of the flagship GeForce RTX 3090 will begin, and the results of its testing are expected to be released at that time. However, the Chinese resource TecLab decided not to wait for the specified NVIDIA deadlines and presented a review of the GeForce RTX 3090 already now.<\/p>\n

To begin with, let\u2019s remind you that the GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card is built on the Ampere GA102 GPU, featuring 10,496 CUDA cores. Currently, this is the most advanced GPU in the Ampere series available for consumers. In its reference version, the chip has a base clock speed of 1395 MHz, while the boost clock frequency is rated at 1695 MHz. The graphics card is equipped with 24 GB of GDDR6X memory with an effective frequency of 19.5 GHz. Together with a 384-bit bus, this provides a bandwidth of 936 GB\/s.<\/p>\n

The system on which the GeForce RTX 3090 was tested was built around the flagship 10-core Core i9-10900K processor running at 5 GHz, complemented by 32 GB of G.Skill DDR4-4133 MHz RAM. Tests were conducted at 4K resolution under synthetic and gaming loads. In games with ray tracing support and AI-enhanced DLSS, tests were performed both with and without the specified options.<\/p>\n

In synthetic tests, the difference between the GeForce RTX 3080 and the flagship GeForce RTX 3090 was 7.1% and 10.5% in the 3DMark Time Spy Extreme and 3DMark Port Royal tests, respectively. These are not the most impressive results, considering that the recommended retail prices for the graphics cards are $699 and $1499 respectively.<\/p>\n

A similar power balance is observed in games as well. Without ray tracing support, for example in Far Cry and Assassin's Creed Odyssey, the difference in frame rates between the GeForce RTX 3080 and GeForce RTX 3090 ranged from 4.7 to 10.5%. In games that support ray tracing and DLSS, the maximum gap reached 11.5%. This result was recorded in Death Stranding, and ironically \u2013 with ray tracing and DLSS turned off.<\/p>\n

On average, the advantage of the GeForce RTX 3090 is 10%, while this graphics card is more than twice as expensive as the GeForce RTX 3080. However, it is worth noting that NVIDIA positions the GeForce RTX 3090 as a successor to the Titan RTX, meaning it's a semi-professional solution. Perhaps in certain professional tasks, this card's potential will be better realized.<\/p>\n
