Published<\/a><\/noindex> project release Stratis 2.2<\/a><\/noindex>, developed by Red Hat and the Fedora community to unify and simplify the tools for configuring and managing a pool of one or more local storage devices. Stratis offers features such as dynamic storage allocation, snapshots, integrity assurance, and layer creation for caching. The project's code is written in Rust and is distributed<\/a><\/noindex> under the MPL 2.0 license.<\/p>\n

The system largely mirrors the capabilities of advanced management tools like ZFS and Btrfs, but is implemented as a layer (daemon stratisd<\/a><\/noindex>), running on top of the Linux kernel's device-mapper subsystem (using the dm-thin, dm-cache, dm-thinpool, dm-raid, and dm-integrity modules) and the XFS file system. Unlike ZFS and Btrfs, Stratis components operate solely in user space and do not require loading specific kernel modules. The project is initially presented as not requiring<\/a><\/noindex> expert qualifications in storage system administration. <\/p>\n

For management, a D-Bus API is provided along with a CLI utility<\/a><\/noindex>.
\nStratis has been tested with block devices based on LUKS (encrypted partitions), mdraid, dm-multipath, iSCSI, LVM logical volumes, as well as various HDDs, SSDs, and NVMe drives. When there is one disk in the pool, Stratis allows the use of logical partitions with snapshot support for rolling back changes. Adding multiple storage devices to the pool provides the ability to logically combine them into a continuous area. Features like
\nRAID, data compression, deduplication, and fault tolerance are not yet supported but are planned for the future.<\/p>\n

In release 2.2<\/a><\/noindex> new D-Bus interface options for property extraction (FetchProperties), management (Manager), and interaction with block devices (Blockdev) have been added. The ability to notify about connection and disconnection events for interfaces (InterfacesAdded and InterfacesRemoved) via D-Bus has also been added in the stratis-cli tool. improved<\/a><\/noindex> input auto-completion scripts for bash.<\/p>\n
