The release of the proprietary archiver RAR version 6.00 has taken place. The changelog for the console version is as follows:<\/p>\n

  1. The options 'Skip' and 'Skip all' have been added to the read error request. The 'Skip' option allows processing to continue only with the already read part of the file, while 'Skip all' does the same for all subsequent read errors.\n

    For example, if you are archiving a file, part of which is blocked by another process, and you choose 'Skip' in the read error prompt, only the portion of the file preceding the inaccessible section will be saved in the archive.<\/p>\n

    This may help avoid interrupting lengthy archiving operations, but keep in mind that files added to the archive with the 'Skip' option will be incomplete.<\/p>\n

    If the -y key is specified, 'Skip' is applied by default to all files.<\/p>\n

    Previously available options 'Retry' and 'Exit' are still present in the read error request.<\/li>\n

  2. When operating in command line mode, read errors result in return code 12. This code is returned for all prompt options when read errors occur, including the new 'Skip' option.\n

    Previously, read errors triggered a more general return code of 2, corresponding to critical errors.<\/li>\n

  3. The new -ad2 flag is used to place extracted files directly into the archive's own folder. Unlike the -ad1 flag, it does not create a separate nested folder for each unpacked archive.<\/li>\n
  4. When extracting parts of files from a multi-volume continuous archive, RAR attempts to skip volumes at the beginning and starts unpacking from the volume closest to the specified file, resetting the continuous packing statistics.\n

    By default, RAR resets continuous archiving statistics at the beginning of sufficiently large continuous volumes where possible. For such volumes, extracting parts of files from the middle of a set of volumes can now be faster.<\/p>\n

    This does not affect the extraction speed of all files from the archive.<\/li>\n

  5. Previously, RAR would automatically resort to extracting from the first volume if the user began extraction not from the first volume and the first volume was available. Now RAR only does this if all volumes between the first and specified one are also available.<\/li>\n
  6. The -idn switch disables the display of file\/folder names in the archive during archiving, extraction, and several other commands in the console version of RAR. It does not affect the display of other messages or the overall progress percentage.\n

    This switch can be useful to reduce the amount of unnecessary information on your screen and decrease computational load when outputting to the console while archiving or extracting many small files.<\/p>\n

    When using the -idn switch, there may be some minor visual artifacts, for example, the progress percentage may overlap with the last few characters of an error message.<\/li>\n

  7. The -mci switch has been removed from the command line. Optimized compression for Itanium executable files is no longer supported. However, RAR can still extract previously created archives that use Itanium executable file compression.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The UnRAR extractor has also been updated to version open-source extractor<\/a> to version 6.0.3<\/a>.<\/p>\n
