github-backup is a program for downloading data related to a cloned repository from GitHub: forks, bug tracker content, comments, wikis, milestones, pull requests, and subscriber lists.<\/p>\n

Seeing that even what happened with the youtube-dl program<\/a>, when her repository was blocked along with the bug tracker and pull requests, few were pushed to abandon their dependence on GitHub \u2014 not even the developer of youtube-dl itself<\/a> \u2014 Joey Hess decided that backing up anything other than source code is of no interest to GitHub users.<\/p>\n

At the same time, git repositories source code<\/em> on GitHub are automatically archived by the site https:\/\/softwareheritage.org\/<\/a>, while third-party repositories can only be added there manually, but this function is buggy and does not support automatic updates of copies. It leads to a paradoxical problem: the average GitHub user doesn\u2019t think about backups but receives them, while those who use their own server, perhaps for reliability, do not have automatic archiving, even if their software is in use.<\/p>\n
