The first releases of the re3 and reVC projects are available, where work has been done on reverse engineering the source code of the games GTA III and GTA Vice City, released about 20 years ago. The published releases are recognized as ready for assembling a fully functional game. The builds have been tested on Linux, Windows, and FreeBSD on x86, amd64, arm, and arm64 systems. Additional ports for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Wii U, PS2, and Xbox are also being developed. To run, game resource files are required, which can be extracted from your copy of GTA III. <\/p>\n

The code recovery project was launched in 2018 with the aim of fixing some bugs, expanding capabilities for mod developers, and experimenting with the study and replacement of simulation algorithms for physical processes. For rendering, in addition to the original graphics engine RenderWare (D3D8), the librw engine can be used, which supports output through D3D9, OpenGL 2.1+, and OpenGL ES 2.0+. For sound output, MSS or OpenAL can be used. The code is provided without license specifications with a note limiting its use to educational purposes, documentation, and mod creation. <\/p>\n

In addition to fixing bugs and adapting for new platforms, the proposed edition includes additional debugging tools, introduces a rotating camera, adds XInput support, expands peripheral device support, provides support for scalable output on widescreen displays, and includes a map and additional options in the menu.
