Valve has released version 6.3-1 of the Proton project, which is based on the developments of the Wine project and aims to enable the launch of Windows games available on Steam in Linux. The developments of the project are distributed under the BSD license. <\/p>\n
Proton allows you to run gaming applications available only for Windows directly in the Steam Linux client. The package includes implementations of DirectX 9\/10\/11 (based on the DXVK package) and DirectX 12 (based on vkd3d-proton), which work by translating DirectX calls to the Vulkan API. It provides improved game controller support and the ability to use fullscreen mode regardless of the screen resolutions supported by the games. To enhance the performance of multi-threaded games, it supports the mechanisms of 'esync' (Eventfd Synchronization) and 'futex\/fsync'. <\/p>\n

Synchronization with Wine 6.3 has been completed (the previous branch was based on Wine 5.13). Accumulated specific patches from Proton have been transferred to upstream and are now included in the main Wine composition. The DXVK layer, which translates calls to the Vulkan API, has been updated to version 1.8.1. VKD3D-Proton, a branch of vkd3d created by Valve to improve Direct3D 12 support in Proton 6.3, has been updated to version 2.2. The FAudio components for DirectX sound libraries (API XAudio2, X3DAudio, XAPO, and XACT3) have been updated to release 21.03.05. The wine-mono package has been updated to version 6.1.1.\n

Improved video support in games. For unsupported formats, a placeholder in the form of a settings table is shown instead of the video.\n
Improved support for PlayStation 5 controllers.\n
Added the ability to configure priorities for running threads. RTKit or Unix utilities for managing priorities (nice, renice) can be used for configuration.\n
Reduced the initialization time for virtual reality mode and improved compatibility with 3D headsets.\n
The build system has been redesigned to reduce build time.\n
