El laboratorio de investigaci\u00f3n 360 Netlab ha informado sobre la identificaci\u00f3n de un nuevo software malicioso para Linux, denominado RotaJakiro, que incluye la implementaci\u00f3n de un backdoor que permite controlar el sistema. Este software malicioso pudo haber sido instalado por los atacantes tras explotar vulnerabilidades no corregidas en el sistema o mediante la deducci\u00f3n de contrase\u00f1as poco seguras. <\/p>\n
El backdoor fue descubierto durante el an\u00e1lisis de tr\u00e1fico sospechoso de uno de los procesos del sistema, lo cual se identific\u00f3 al estudiar la estructura de un botnet utilizado para un ataque DDoS. Antes de esto, RotaJakiro permaneci\u00f3 sin ser detectado durante tres a\u00f1os, siendo que los primeros intentos de verificar en el servicio VirusTotal archivos con hash MD5 coincidentes con el software malicioso detectado datan de mayo de 2018. <\/p>\n
Entre las caracter\u00edsticas de RotaJakiro se destaca el uso de diferentes t\u00e9cnicas de camuflaje al ejecutarse con derechos de usuario no privilegiado y root. Para ocultar su presencia, el backdoor utiliz\u00f3 nombres de procesos como systemd-daemon, session-dbus y gvfsd-helper, que, considerando la saturaci\u00f3n de distribuciones modernas de Linux con varios procesos de servicio, parec\u00edan leg\u00edtimos a simple vista y no levantaban sospechas. <\/p>\n
Al ejecutarse con derechos de root, se creaban los scripts \/etc\/init\/systemd-agent.conf y \/lib\/systemd\/system\/sys-temd-agent.service, mientras que el archivo ejecutable malicioso se ubicaba como \/bin\/systemd\/systemd-daemon y \/usr\/lib\/systemd\/systemd-daemon (la funcionalidad se duplicaba en ambos archivos). Al ejecutarse con derechos de un usuario normal, se utilizaba el archivo de inicio autom\u00e1tico $HOME\/.config\/au-tostart\/gnomehelper.desktop y se modificaban .bashrc, adem\u00e1s de que el archivo ejecutable se guardaba como $HOME\/.gvfsd\/.profile\/gvfsd-helper y $HOME\/.dbus\/sessions\/session-dbus. Ambos archivos ejecutables se lanzaban simult\u00e1neamente, cada uno de los cuales vigilaba la presencia del otro y lo restauraba en caso de que se detuviera. <\/p>\n
Para ocultar los resultados de su actividad, el backdoor empleaba varios algoritmos de cifrado, por ejemplo, se utilizaba AES para cifrar sus recursos y ocultar el canal de comunicaci\u00f3n con el control. el servidor<\/a> una combinaci\u00f3n de AES, XOR y ROTATE junto con compresi\u00f3n mediante ZLIB. <\/p>\n Para obtener comandos de administraci\u00f3n, el malware se dirigi\u00f3 a 4 dominios a trav\u00e9s del puerto de red 443 (se utiliz\u00f3 un protocolo propio en la comunicaci\u00f3n, no HTTPS ni TLS).
